Tuesday, May 11th finds the Brooklyn Nets playing the Chicago Bulls for the second time this season with another game scheduled to occur on Saturday, May 15th. The Bulls won the initial meeting on April 4th 115-107.
Last season, the clubs played three times with Brooklyn sweeping the regular-season series. The Bulls hold the all-time record having won 94 matches of the 174 played
Brooklyn Nets
The victory halted a four-game losing streak. Kevin Durant led the way with a double-double of 33 points and 11 rebounds plus seven assists. Kyrie Irving added 31 points while Blake Griffin got the start and added 20 points. Jeff Green scored 15 points off the bench.
And while the effort was strong and may have been a tip of Steve Nash’s hat to the postseason (starting Griffin at center) there is only one outstanding question and that is when and if James Harden will return.
Harden has stated he plans to return before the season end so presumably sometime this week in one of the games at home (Spurs, Bulls, Cavaliers).
Bruce Brown (facial contusion) is questionable. James Harden (right hamstring strain), Chris Chiozza right hand fractured third metacarpal) are out while Spencer Dinwiddie, (torn ACL) is lost for the season.
Chicago Bulls
A season that started out with high hopes for success hasn’t exacted gone as planned. The Bulls have faced tons of adversity but Chicago enters the final week still clinging to hope. Monday brought good news as the Wizards lost to the Hawks.
The Bulls still trail Washington by 2.5 games and will need to win out and cross their fingers for some extra luck to find a way to that 10th seed.
It won’t be an easy path given the two matches against the Nets plus games against the Raptors and Bucks to close out the season.
Fortunately, the Raptors won’t be as motivated to win given they’ve been eliminated and it will behoove them to lose so they retain their current position of having the seventh-best odds of winning the draft lottery.
Likewise, the Bucks may have cemented their position by the final game and therefore could be resting their core.
Zach LaVine’s return has bolstered the team who’ve won all three matches. He’s improved each game out, scoring 13 versus Charlotte, 25 against Boston, and 30 in the last game versus the Pistons.
Troy Brown Jr., (left ankle sprain) and Daniel Theis (right hip contusion) are both questionable for Tuesday.
