Sunday, May 30th finds the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics tipping off in the fourth game of their first-round series.
Boston finally got on the board with a big 125-119 win in Game 3 as Jayson Tatum put up 50 points to put the Celtics in a position to make this a series if they can follow up with another victory to draw the series even.
The Nets won the opening game 104-93 and routed Boston in the second match 130-108.
Brooklyn Nets
With the Bucks dispensing of the Heat via a sweep on Saturday, it will up the ante for Brooklyn to try to finish off their series. As it is Milwaukee will get at least a week off so the longer this series runs the bigger the rest advantage for the Bucks is.
As was expected Kyrie Irving was mercilessly booed by the Boston faithful and that’s only going to get louder in Game 4 as the Celtics will be allowing close to full capacity into TD Garden (Friday the Celtics had 25 percent occupancy).
Irving did seem to be bothered as he shot 6 of 17 from the field collecting 16 points. His running mates made up for his tough shooting night with James Harden scoring 41 and Kevin Durant adding 39 points.
Harden also added seven rebounds and 10 assists while KD grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals.
While Brad Stevens can’t afford to rely on repeated Tatum 50 point outbursts the more important takeaway is the Celtics as a whole now understand if they limit one of the Big 3 and take care of the others they can be victorious.
While the Nets aren’t a top defensive club that fact was made more obvious with the loss of Jeff Green who missed Game 3 with a bruised foot and won’t play again in the series.
Spencer Dinwiddie (right knee – partially torn ACL) is out for the season.
Boston Celtics
Clearly, Tatum was the story of Game 3 with his 50 points comprised of 16 of 30 from the field, 5 of 11 from deep, and 13 of 15 free throws. The youngster offered up a complete game with six rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block.
Tristan Thompson stepped up with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds including nine offensive rebounds.
Starters Marcus Smart (23 points, six assists) and Evan Fournier (19 points with four triples) also registered double-figure scoring and impacted the defensive end.
The fact the Celtics won despite Kemba Walker having a poor offensive effort could be looked at with optimism he’ll have a more typical effort in Game 4. Walker scored just six points on 3 of 14 from the field.
The veteran point guard was questionable for Game 3 after bruising his knee and if history repeats that could mean he’ll struggle through the rest of the series.
Jaylen Brown (wrist) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Nets are 7-3 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
- The Nets are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over/Under is 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head meetings
Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Neither reserve unit was a factor in Game 3 with the Nets winning that margin by a slim 11 to 10 points.
Injuries could play a factor for both teams as Green won’t play the rest of the series while Walker is dealing with the knee bruise and Robert Williams was limited to six minutes due to an ankle sprain.
Boston needs to keep the pressure on and look to replicate their Game 3 success which resulted in them winning the paint (36 to 30) and fast-break scoring (9 to 8) as well as the glass (46 to 37).
