Monday, November 21st, the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls will compete in the third of four scheduled meetings this season. Chicago won the initial match on October 24th (120-102) while the Celtics took the November 4th match (123-119).
Boston will host the final meeting between the teams on January 9th.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 130 wins in 238 meetings versus the Bulls. Last season, the teams played three times with the Celtics taking two of the three contests.
Boston Celtics
Despite entering this season amidst drama surrounding the suspension (likely end of his Celtics career) of their head coach Ime Udoka and missing their best defender (apologies to Marcus Smart – – but hello Robert Williams is your defensive captain) the Celtics never missed a beat.
They sit atop the Eastern Conference annihilating teams with their potent offense while Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown offer evidence anyone who questioned their ability to function together simply didn’t foresee their commitment to growth.

In fact, if there was an issue of this Celtics team in recent seasons it was how the offense would go through cold stretches, forcing iso-ball down their opponents’ throats and would get stuck in quicksand.
However, the ascent of Tatum as a playmaker and the constancy of the roster has resulted in overall growth and a team that used losing the NBA Finals to motivate them (the Hawks and Cavaliers should take heed – THIS is how it’s done).
Boston boasts the second-best offensive production scoring 120.2 points per game while they rank third in both field goal percentage (48.7%) and perimeter percentage (39.1%).
They allow 113.3 opponent points (15th) and are tied for 13th both in field goal (46.1%) and perimeter (35.1%) percentage.
Marcus Smart (ankle) is questionable for Monday. Robert Williams III (knee) and Danilo Gallinari (knee) are out indefinitely.
Chicago Bulls
When the Bulls inked Zach LaVine to his contract and added DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso the belief was they were revamping the roster to be a perennial playoff and hopeful title contender.
For much of the early portion of last season, those decisions seemed to be working as they sat atop the Eastern Conference. But, as the season wore on it became clear this team while a good regular season club was still well short of belonging in the upper echelon.
Their 2-20 record against the elite punctuated that point, and worse without Lonzo Ball their defense took a nose dive.
Flash forward to almost a quarter of the way through this campaign and the Bulls are outside looking up at the play-in seeds and in need of more roster tweaks.
Chicago scores 110.5 points per game ranking 19th while shooting 46.8% from the field (17th) and 35.3% from deep (16th). Defensively, they allow 111.6 points per game to rank 12th with opponents shoot 47.8% from the field (25th) and 38.6% from deep (28th.
Lonzo Ball (knee) remains out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:

- The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Chicago’s last 6 games.
Free Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction:
I harped about Boston’s early defensive struggles, but it looks like Joe Mazzulla must’ve emphasized that fact as they’ve been upping their intensity presumably in anticipation of Williams’ return.
If they can replicate how they played with RWill last season it could result in the Celtics leading the league on both sides of the court.
Although the Celtics are clearly the better team, DeRozan always seems to have huge nights against Boston and while that might not result in a win I think he’ll keep the Bulls closer than the spread.
