Friday, they allowed Brooklyn to build an early double-digit lead and take a 15 point lead into the final frame. By the time they made a run, it was too late to catch the Nets.
Jayson Tatum delivered a massive 38 point, 10 rebound double-double. Rookie Payton Pritchard scored 22 while Marcus Smart chipped in 19 as the only other Celtics to score in double-figures.
While Brown missed his second game in a row, Evan Fournier finally returned from missing nine games due to COVID scoring a measly two points.
In an interesting choice, Boston elected to rest Kemba Walker (injury management) after he scored 32 versus the Suns. I get the load management but that game versus the Nets was an important match and with Brown already missing it feels like a poor choice not to have Walker play.
Brown has missed the last two matches but isn’t listed on the NBA injury report, albeit that doesn’t mean he’ll play. Robert Williams is out with left knee soreness.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets have lost six of their last eight but won the most recent match on Friday versus the Cavaliers.
James Borrego is trying to keep his Hornets in the mix without LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward. The latter is expected back early in May while Ball got his cast off and the team is optimistic about his return though mum on the date.
In the interim, the Hornets are trying to retain their playoff berth having already slid into eighth.
They showed fight in coming back against the Cavs with three Hornets scoring 25 points including Miles Bridges (who also collected a double-double with 10 rebounds) PJ Washington, and Terry Rozier.
Jalen McDaniels scored 10 points as the only other double-figure scorer.
LaMelo Ball (wrist), Gordon Hayward (foot), Malik Monk (ankle), and Nate Darling (ankle) are all also out.
