The now struggling Atlanta Hawks look to get back on track in the Southeast Division this Monday when they travel to New York for this matchup with the up-start Knicks.
Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks have only won one of their last 7 games and allowed their lead on the division to completely evaporate. They have been playing in a lot of shootouts in recent despite which is a bit surprising as they do not rank out too bad in terms of overall defense.
Trae Young is the driving force of this offense at the point and he is on an All-Star pace averaging 26 points and nearly 10 assists per game. He is now getting some help from guys like John Collins and Kevin Huerter who have both found form this year. It will come down to if they can stop the Knicks, as opposed to the offense, as I do believe Atlanta can put up plenty of points against this Knicks defense.
Bogdanovic, Dunn, Hunter, Rondo and now Tony Snell are all on the injury report, so this is not exactly a healthy team. Snell is listed as day to day so keep an eye out for new on his status although his impact is not massive on this team.
New York Knicks
The Knicks were outstanding in their last game with the Rockets blowing Houston out by 22 points which should give them plenty of belief that they can also pick up a win against this Hawks team. Julius Randle was able to successfully bounceback in that game with 22 points and 9 rebounds which is important, as he needs to produce in order for this team to win games.
There were multiple reasons for the Knicks to be happy in that game against the Rockets, as the Knicks first round draft pick Obi Toppin had a solid game with 11 points off of just 15 minutes played. Also look out for Elfrid Payton who seems to be getting more and more run, as some of RJ Barrett’s minutes are being reduced.
This will also be an interesting matchup because you have such a great offense with the Hawks going up against the number one rated defense in the league with the Knicks.
