Monday, December 6th, finds the Atlanta Hawks facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first meeting this season. Minnesota last played Friday in a 105-110 loss to the Nets while Hawks last played Sunday in a 127-130 loss to the undermanned Hornets.
Last season, the teams played twice with Atlanta winning both contests and the Hawks have a current three-game win streak versus the T-Wolves. The Pacers hold the all-time record having bested the Wolves in 38 of their 61 matches
Atlanta Hawks
This season the Hawks have feasted at home but fell on Sunday to take their overall record to a mirror reflection of home and road. Atlanta is 8-4 at home and 4-8 on the road.
When they get into a track meet they don’t tend to perform as well and that means head coach Nate McMillian has work to do in order to get his club dialed back in on the defensive end of the hardwood.

In the loss on Sunday, both John Collins (31 points, 12 rebounds, four assists) and Trae Young (25 points, 15 assists, four rebounds) each registered double-doubles.
Kevin Huerter scored 28 points while Danilo Gallinari (17) and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (12) each offered double-digit scoring.
It was an odd game with both the Hornets and Hawks hitting 17 of 37 triples. Atlanta won a majority of the key categories including rebounding (45 to 39), assists (29 to 21), and points in the paint (50 to 36).
However, the Hornets got the edge in free throws (28 to 18), fast break scoring (15 to 5), and got the upper hand on turnovers scoring 19 points off 11 Hawks turnovers compared to nine off their six miscues.
Bogdan Bogdanovic (ankle) and Cam Reddish (illness) didn’t play Sunday and are both questionable for Monday. Onyeka Okongwu (shoulder) and DeAndre Hunter (wrist) are out indefinitely.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves turned their fortunes winning seven of eight games but then Karl-Anthony Towns took a hard fall forcing him to miss the game in Brooklyn and is listed as questionable for this match.
The trio of KAT, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell is forging solid chemistry so the timing of his injury isn’t ideal. In spite of Towns being out on Friday, all five Wolves starters and reserve Michael Beasley (18) scored in double-figures.
Russell led the way with 21 points and 11 assists while Jarred Vanderbilt also registered a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds including six offensive rebounds.
Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid both scored 19 points plus Taurean Prince chipped in 11 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Jaden McDaniels (illness) was upgraded to probable for Monday. Patrick Beverley (leg) has missed the last five games and has been upgraded to questionable. Russell (ankle) and Jaylen Nowell (back) are also questionable.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Hawks are 6-4 in the last 10 head-to-head contests.
- The Hawks are 6-3-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 5-5 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
- The Wolves are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games.
Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
The Wolves have the rest advantage over the Hawks who are on a back-to-back set and don’t fare as well on the road but the Wolves could be without two of their three stars if Russell and Towns are out.
Much will depend on who plays for Minnesota but if they both play I like the Wolves’ chances. Conversely, if both are out I’d favor the Hawks taking the match. Keep an eye out for injury updates but for now, I’m leaning to the Wolves.
