On Sunday, February 28th the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat play for the first time this season.
The Heat holds the all-time record between the clubs with 69 wins in 123 meetings. Last season, the teams played four times with Miami taking three of the four contests.
Atlanta Hawks
This Hawks team is a paradox. Through the last six games, they’ve played .500 ball. The intriguing factor is Atlanta won two out of three versus the Celtics and routed the Nuggets but the other two losses were to the lottery-bound Cavaliers and Thunder.
Either they are getting slept on by top teams or taking other lottery clubs for granted. Neither option is positive and points to a problem with leadership and culture.

I still think this team can be dangerous especially once Kris Dunn and Bogdan Bogdanovic return but can they stay close enough for it to matter when they do?
During those six games highlighted above Trae Young is averaging 21 field goal attempts. In the three wins, the perimeter was key as he shot 13 of 27 from deep (48.1%) in the wins and 7 of 23 in the losses (30%).
It’s not all on Young but taking 28 shots to get 27 points only works if you’re getting calls and the Thunder proved by defending Young aggressively without fouling is the way to stop Atlanta as he failed to take a single free throw and finished with 17 points.
Cam Reddish (Achilles) missed the last three games and is questionable for Saturday. Kris Dunn hasn’t played this season healing from offseason knee surgery.
Bogdan Bogdanovic has missed 24 games, with an avulsion fracture to his knee, and will be out at least until March. Additionally, De’Andre Hunter suffered an articular tear in his right knee and won’t return until April.
Miami Heat
It’s not likely Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo lost any sleep over not getting selected as All-Star reserves but they do take winning seriously.
While the Heat navigated COVID-19 health and safety protocols with players like Butler testing positive and missing games as well as copious injuries they were mired in the bottom of the East.
Miami began the week seeded behind the Pacers, Celtics, Knicks, Bulls, and Hornets but following Friday’s win moved past them all into the fifth seed.
They accomplished this via a five-game win streak. And, these aren’t all easy wins over lottery teams. Rather, they include victories versus the defending champion Lakers, a charging Raptors club, and most impressively the hottest team in the NBA (Utah Jazz)!
Butler (33 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists) and Adebayo (19 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists) each delivered All-Star worthy (bit of shade there) efforts. Goran Dragic (26), Duncan Robinson (15), and Kendrick Nunn (12) all offered double-digit scores.
Tyler Herro (hip) will be a game-time decision. Avery Bradley (calf) will miss up to a month. Chris Silva (hip) remains out with no specified return date. Meyers Leonard underwent season-ending shoulder surgery.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 6-4 in the teams last 10 meetings.
- The Hawkare 6-4 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these clubs
- The teams are 5-5 in the over/under in their last 10 meetings.
Free Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Notably, Butler’s return was key to the shift by the Heat, but equally important was the return of Goran Dragic who scored 15 versus Toronto and 26 against the Jazz.
