Atlanta Hawks

The Hawks haven’t been losing by much but they have lost five in a row and nine out of ten going into this game in Denver, their third game of a four-game West Coast trip.

Atlanta led in the second half at Golden State but the Warriors went on one little spurt in the third quarter, took a double-digit lead and then just sort of cruised from there to win by seven.

The Hawks don’t have a lot of great defenders but they have been committed to defending of late. Sometimes, they just don’t bother at all and I’m wondering if this could be one of those games. They must be a little frustrated with all the close losses lately and Denver is a tempting environment to just run and gun.

Long-Term, I’m interested to see how long Trae Young holds up for. He is the Hawks’ number one option on offense an he’s just so young, so small and never gone through an NBA season before. He’s going to hit the wall eventually. For now, though, it’s early. He’s been fun to watch in Atlanta’s first fourteen games.

Denver Nuggets

Denver is still 9–5 but it’s been a struggle lately. The Nuggets have lost four straight after peaking with a win over Boston behind Jamal Murray’s forty-eight last week. That win gave the Nuggets a 9–1 record and a share of the lead in the Western Conference.

The last three losses have all come at home. Two losses were somewhat expected, against the Bucks and Rockets but losing to the Nets at the Pepsi Center is alarming for this team.

This is the final home game of a four-game stand so they’re just trying to beat one of the worst teams in the NBA to avoid a winless home stand. It would be shocking if Denver didn’t win this game with maximum effort.

Murray has averaged exactly fifteen points per game in the four since his explosion against Boston. He played slightly less minutes in the last two games after going close to forty per for a while. He should be a little more well-rested to take on Young.
