The Ragin’ Cajuns will be on the road after suffering their first loss of the season to Coastal Carolina. UAB will host the Cajuns this Friday Night in Birmingham in a non-conference battle between the Sun Belt and Conference USA.
Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns
Louisiana is coming off a 30-27 loss to a divisional opponent in Coastal Carolina. The loss knocked the Cajuns out of the top-25 ranking and put them in second place in the Sun Belt Divison as Coastal is undefeated this season.
Carolina dominated the Cajuns all game and especially in the time of possession as the Chanticleers held the ball for 38:21 compared to the 21:49 for Louisiana.
Offensively, the Cajuns have been pretty good on offense this season. Louisiana ranks 47th in the FBS in passing yards per game with 224 and 28th in the nation in rushing with 186.5 yards per game. As a team, they average 28 points per game which ranks 50th overall in the entire country out of 77 FBS schools to step foot on the field so far.
Levi Lewis hasn’t looked great in the last two weeks but hopefully, he can turn it around here against the Blazers. Lewis has completed 66 of 114 passes this season for 896 yards to go along with his five touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has 103 yards on the ground this season to go with a TD.

The Cajuns average 5.7 yards per carry on the ground and have found the endzone eight times from the run game in their first four games. That works in Louisiana’s favor as UAB has been prone to giving up production on the ground. Opposing teams have run the ball for an average of 172.4 yards per game and at 4.9 yards per attempt against the Blazers.
UAB Blazers
The Blazers achieved a 37-14 home win over Western Kentucky at home Saturday in their most recent game. UAB stands at 2-0 in conference play, putting them atop the Conference USA West Division standings.
So far on the season, the Blazers rank 52nd in the FBS in among air yards among offenses with 217.2 yards per game. UAB is much better at rushing though as they come in at 27th in the nation in ground yards with 186.8 per game. As a team, Bill Clark’s squad averages 31.8 points per game which is good for the nation’s 32nd scoring offense.
Tyler Johnston III has been under center for UAB offense and he has completed 32 of 48 passes for 293 yards to go along with three touchdowns.
Defensively, UAB is a top 25 team as they are holding opponents to just 18.1 points per game through five matchups this season.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
I like Louisiana in this game as I think it’s a bounce back spot for the Cajuns. Louisiana struggled against the air raid attack of Coastal Carolina and trailed the entire game. Levi Lewis hasn’t looked right in the last two week and I think that he will have a much better performance against a weaker UAB defensive front. Even though the Cajuns are missing three of their receivers I still think they have enough ground game to get the job done down in Alabama as they average 4.7 yards per play on the ground. Give me the Cajuns and points to cover -2.5 with the superior ground game.
