The NCAAF is back and Saturday is full of games including this Holy Cross versus Navy matchup.
This game will take place on Saturday August 31st at Navy-Marine Crops Memorial Stadium which has a capacity of 34 000.
Holy Cross Crusaders
The Holy Cross Crusaders will be coming into this season with a lot of confidence as they finished last year 4-0. They did, however, start the season poorly going 1-6 and it might be more of the same as their first 4 games are seriously tough. Bob Chesney, second year head coach, has a tough decision to make in terms of who will be his starting QB, but it will likely end up being Connor Degenhardt.
[dfads params=’groups=220&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Degenhardt is a junior who did not play at all last season and unfortunately for him, he has some big shoes to fill. Last year’s starter, Geoff Wade, was outstanding down the stretch and put up numbers of 1844 passing yards and 16 passing TD’s and really got it going in the back half of the season.
Senior runningback Domenic Cozier is coming into this season off the back of a 643 yard season that he will be looking to build on. He should be able to do that, as well, as the team is likely to rely far more on the running game with a new QB under center.
The Holy Cross defense was decent last year and get their duo of Alex Johnson and Joe Lang back who both combined for 139 tackles last year. On the other hand, they will need to replace seven starters on defense which might be tough to do given this year’s recruiting class.
Navy Midshipmen
Navy has almost always had a good rushing attack and that was no different last year. In 2018, they ranked 5th in the nation with 276 yards per game. Head coach Ken Niumatalolo will be hoping things can mesh a little better for his side this year coming off a pretty disappointing 3-10 season.

Malcolm Perry, the starting QB for the Midshipmen, is not a typical QB being moved seemingly all over the field after being the week 1 starter in 2018. He will have another go at QB this year and is mostly just a running threat for a team that only really knows how to run the ball.
That last statement couldn’t be any more true as this offense only completed 54 passes all of last season.
One of the main dangers on the defensive side of the ball is Jackson Pittman who has been outstanding his last two years with the school. Pittman at 6-3, 300 pounds, actually has some pretty good speed and his athleticism will pose some serious questions to the O-line of Holy Cross.
Even though there is talent on this defense, they only managed to rank 86th in the country and allowed 33 points per game often getting burned through the air.
The Midshipmen do have a new defensive co-ordinator in Brian Newberry so maybe things can turn around for them this season defensively.

I think the Navy defense can get better this year with a new defensive co-ordinator as they certainly have the talent on hand to be dominant in this division. I would look for the triple option to work well for this edition of the Midshipmen and for them to be better than last year. I can’t say the same for Holy Cross so I am going to lay the big number and back the home team here at -21.5.
