We got a pair of unranked teams from the Big-12 squaring off. The last time these two teams met last year they were both ranked and hunting for a Big-12 championship. Texas sits at 2-2 on the season while Baylor remains at just 1-1 due to game cancellations from COVID-19.
Baylor Bears
It will three full weeks since the Bears last played a game and that was against West Virginia on October 3rd. Baylor suffered the loss in that game 27-21 in overtime after struggling all game to get anything going on offense.
Charlie Brewer was forced to do too much in the game as the Bears couldn’t establish a running game. Brewer completed 23 of 38 passes for 229 yards to go along with three touchdowns and two interceptions. He was forcing the ball down the field too much and it caused him to throw those two picks.
On the ground, Baylor gained just 27 yards against West Virginia and they are going to need to utilize a running game versus Texas if they want to win. On the year, the Bears are averaging 115 yards per game which is near the bottom in terms of ranks in the FBS.

Defensively, they are allowing 336.5 yards per game and 185 passing yards against Kansas and West Virginia. The Bears also allow 151.5 rushing yards per game which is ranked 36th in the nation.
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns are coming off a bye week after their loss to TCU. Sam Ehlinger has been trying for years to bring Texas back and once again 2020 is not Texas’s year.
Offensively, Texas has the best offense in the country according to the numbers, but it doesn’t show it in the win column. As a team, the Longhorns average 49.5 points per game and leads the nation in scoring per game. They gain 493 total yards per game and a lot of that is thanks to their QB making the right play.
Senior QB Sam Ehlinger is so versatile for this Texas team as it does it all. Ehlinger can make plays with his arms and legs and the numbers show it. Sam has thrown for over 1200 yards this season for 16 touchdowns and four picks. He also has rushed for over 240 yards and has six scores on his feet.
The defense has been the issue for Texas for years now and it’s really showing this year. They are allowing opponents to score an average of 36.2 points per game. Teams are gaining over 400 total yards of offense per game against this Texas front and over 250 yards in the air.

Free Week 8 NCAA Football Pick
I think Baylor is the right play in this game. They have the potential to win outright going up against this abysmal Texas defense. Even though Charlie Brewer hasn’t looked right his first two games this season, you could chuck it up to the fact that he’s playing with a whole new coaching staff and that takes some getting used too. We know what Sam Ehlinger and this Texas team are by now. They are going to put up a lot of points but they are also going to give up a lot of points so at least this Baylor team can cover. Give me the Bears to cover the +10 and make this a game in Austin.
