We may have a snow game on our hands as the weather is not looking good for this matchup. As of right now, there is snow in the forecast in Minnesota so we may have s sloppy matchup between these two ranked teams. After a very successful 2019, PJ Fleck and the Gophers will try to reach the Big 10 championship game after coming up just short last season. I can’t say the same for Michigan as their mindset has been set on Ohio State as it has been almost a decade since they have last beat them.
This has been a highly anticipated matchup for weeks when the Big-10 announced they were coming back, so let’s see who is going to leave Minnesota with a hot start to the season.
Michigan Wolverines
Jim Harbaugh will have his hands full for his first game of the season this year as they are heading to Minneapolis to take on the Gophers in the snow. Michigan will be short-handed already to start the season as a couple of key players have left school to prepare for the draft. Right tackle Jaylen Mayfield and cornerback Ambry Thomas are a couple of examples that will not be participating in the Wolverines upcoming season and that really hurts them as they are NFL talent.
The Wolverines will be turning to a sophomore QB this season after Shea Patterson left due to the NFL draft. Joe Milton will start under center for the first time in his career in college after getting very limited playing time last year. Milton appeared in four games last season for the Wolverines in relief of Patterson and didn’t show much promise. He completed just 3 of 7 passes for 59 yards to go along with a touchdown and interception.
Coach Harbaugh seems to like the QB very much so we will see how things shake in his first start.

Michigan’s defense is expected to be a work in progress this season, especially in the secondary. The team is going to be replacing two of its starting cornerbacks from last season and a three-year starter at safety who opted out of this season. The revamped secondary will battle-tested early against reigning Big Ten receiver of the year Rashod Bateman on Saturday night.
Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Gophers will try to build off an impressive 2019 season that saw the program finish 11-2 and an Outback Bowl victory over Auburn. 2019 Coach of the Year P.J. Fleck will return to the club after many speculated he would test the NFL waters. along with junior signal-caller Tanner Morgan, who threw for more than 3,200 yards with 30 touchdowns and only seven interceptions as a sophomore.
Rashod Bateman granted the Minnesota fans with some great news as he decided to return to school after originally opting out of the 2020 season. Bateman was the 2019 Big-10 receiver of the year and hauled in over 1200 yards and 15+ touchdowns.
Tanner Morgan will be back playing under center for the Gophers in his junior season. Morgan last year completed 210 of 318 passes for 3253 yards to go along with 30 touchdowns and seven interceptions. A lot of people think that Tanner is going to be a first-round pick in this upcoming draft so watch out for what he can on Saturday night.

I think Minnesota is the right play in this game. Michigan has too many question marks surrounding their team. The defense for the Wolverine’s is in shambles in the secondary and with Rashad Bateman on the receiving end of balls for the Gophers they should have no problem finding the end zone against this U of M defense. Tanner Morgan wants to show the world what the NFL scouts already know and that is that he could be the second QB taken in this draft behind Trevor Lawerence and I think he has a breakout game on Saturday. Give me the Gophers to row the boat against the Wolverines.
