Two 1-2 teams will clash in an Eastern division match-up in Ottawa on Friday night. Each team is coming off a loss and will be looking to rebound in Week 5.
Fans in Montreal were ready to celebrate their team’s first home game in nearly 2 years last week, but Dane Evans and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats muted those celebrations with a 27-10 victory. The Tiger-Cats were able to control William Stanback and keep Montreal’s run game at bay, playing a huge factor in limiting the Alouettes to just 10 points.
Montreal head coach Khari Jones has announced some changes to his team for Week 5 that could factor into the result. Defensive back Ty Cranston is out with a knee injury. Marc-Antoine Dequoy will make his first start in the CFL as a result. Linebacker Ahmad Thomas is also out with a knee injury for this one and will be replaced by Tre Watson.
With his team having lost two games in a row, Jones also announced that receiver Dante Absher will get his first start of the year replacing Quan Bray.
The Als started the season strong with a 30-13 victory over the Edmonton Elks. They then fell short in a late-game comeback attempt against Calgary in week 2, ultimately dropping that one 28-22. The loss last week to a Hamilton team who had really been struggling to score points early in the season is likely a tough pill to swallow for the Als. They will want to bounce back with this one here.
You would be hard-pressed to find many CFL Power Rankings that don’t have the Ottawa RedBlacks ranked in the #9 spot. They again were unable to score a touchdown last week in their 24-12 loss to the Lions, only managing 4 field goals in the defeat.
In 3 games so far this season, the RedBlacks have only scored 38 points, ranking last in the league in points per games played. They are also last in the league at yards per play and yards per games played. The RedBlacks have serious offensive issues, in other words. Last week, however, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats went into their Week 4 matchup with the Alouettes with serious offensive concerns as well and managed to pull out a 27-10 victory. Ottawa might be hoping for a similar result here.
Head coach Paul LaPolice recently told media he won’t’ make drastic changes if the offense continues to flounder, but one has to wonder if he’ll be able to have the same attitude if this continues for a few more weeks.
CFL Betting Trends:
- Ottawa is 1-6 in their last 7 ATS.
- Montreal is 2-6 ATS in their last 8.
- Ottawa has lost their last 5 home games SU dating back to 2019.
- Ottawa is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games.
- Montreal is 8-17 SU in their last 25 away games.
4* Free CFL Betting Prediction: Montreal -7
Both of these teams will come in with a little something to prove. The Als want to prove they aren’t the same team they were in the home opener loss to Hamilton last week while Ottawa wants to prove they aren’t the worst team in the league as most everyone says they are. The spread has Montreal winning this one by a touchdown, which is a pretty safe lead when dealing with an offence like Ottawa’s. I like Montreal to take this one and cover the spread.
