Wednesday, October 26th the Brooklyn Nets play the Milwaukee Bucks. The teams will play four times this season with Milwaukee hosting again on March 9th and the Nets hosting on December 23rd and February 28th.
Brooklyn last played on Monday losing (124-134) to the Grizzlies while this is only the third game for Milwaukee having beaten the 76ers and Rockets.
Last season the clubs played four times with the Bucks winning three of the four contests. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Nets in 107 of their 183 matches
Brooklyn Nets
In contrast to how the Bucks looked in the first week, the Nets landed on the other end of the spectrum and did NOT look cohesive.
They got fortunate against the Raptors who won fast break, paint, and scoring off turnover categories plus shot better than Brooklyn from the field and perimeter. Eleven additional free throws and some debatable benefit calls were the difference in the victory.
Areas of concern are rebounding where they rank 29th on total rebounds and dead last on the defensive glass. Most concerning is their 30th-ranked defense with a shocking 124.7 points (compare that to the 99.5 of the top-ranked Bucks!).
Having two talents of the ilk of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving means the Nets can win on any given night if one or both get hot.
However, this is not an entertaining team to watch – – at least under their current system because KD and Irving run the your turn – my turn sets bringing the offense to a standstill.
Hopefully that dynamic will change once Joe Harris gets his rhythm back and Seth Curry returns. But the main thing that needs to change is Ben Simmons pushing the team in transition to capitalize on his skills.
Seth Curry (ankle) and Markieff Morris (personal) are questionable for Wednesday. TJ Warren (foot) is out.
Milwaukee Bucks
With only two games completed it’s an extremely small sample size to draw from but it’s also hard to ignore how both wins seemed inevitable (even the two-point victory versus the 76ers).
Sure there is work to do on offense (ranked 14th) but with Giannis Antetokounmpo averaging 32.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.5 in just 32 minutes it’s a good bet the Bucks aren’t sweating it.
Especially since their second-best player (Khris Middleton) and a key contributor (Pat Connaughton) are still out and their returns will bolster the offense.
While they await that duo they can rely on their defense which ranked first in week one and was lethal when it counted (see clutch time versus the 76ers).
Middleton (wrist) is expected to be out until early November. Connaughton (right calf strain) will miss three weeks. Joe Ingles (ACL) is working his way back from the injury likely returning early in the New Year.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Brooklyn is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 11 of Milwaukee’s last 14 games.
- Brooklyn is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against Milwaukee.
- Milwaukee are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games at home.
Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction
Brooklyn ranks 20th on pace but in the fourth quarter drop to 29th which is when KD and Kyrie take over with the iso-ball sets. Until that changes or they balance it with some ball movement and pace this Nets team is only impressive on paper.
As for Milwaukee, again, it’s only a two-game sample so while the accolades should probably be tempered I can’t help but feel the Bucks seem content to let the Celtics be the focus of the national media while they concentrate on staying rested and healthy for the postseason.
With that, I like the Bucks to take this match easily – the only question is whether Giannis scores 40 faster against the Bucks than he did against the Rockets.
