Klay Thompson, GSW (@ LAC), $6.9k DK
The easy thing to do knowing that Stephen Curry is sitting Monday against the LA Clippers is to draft Kevin Durant. You’re not wrong in thinking that way. But everybody’s going to zig, so we’re going to zag—especially because we have another top-tier must-draft player in mind. (See our center pick later on).
Klay Thompson may have a nearly unattainable high ceiling, but he also has a high floor. He should be somewhere in between at worst with Steph out, and he could end up being the best player on the court at just $6.9k.
JJ Redick, PHI (@ MIA) $5.3k DK
JJ Redick has a chance to come into this game and make a big impact when very few people expect it. The Sixers are short-handed (more on that momentarily) and Miami struggles stopping guards in DFS.
On the year, the Heat are just 29th when playing guards in DFS. This is an easy pick.
Justise Winslow, MIA (vs PHI), $5.5k DK
If you end up tuning into Philadelphia vs. Miami on Monday, you’re going to hear a lot of Jimmy Butler talk. But Jimmy ain’t gonna be there.
You know who else won’t be there? Dario Saric or Robert Covington.
Justise Winslow has a chance to sneak into this one as someone who could creep out of the shadows and make a big difference.
The Sixers are just 29th in the NBA when guarding guards in DFS. Take advantage of this before Butler joins the perimeter attack in Philly and changes that.
Patrick Siakam, TOR (vs NOLA), $5.9k DK
Patrick Siakam hasn’t made himself a household name yet, which puts you at a serious advantage of the casual DFS player. This guy has put up 30.25, 29.75, 28.75 and 39.25 in his last four games, respectively, and if you’re able to gloss over the 19.75-point showing he had before that, his numbers were 42.74 and 44.0 right before that.
Joel Embiid, PHI (@ MIA) $10.1k DK
Here we go. Here’s the top-tier center we teased earlier—the top-tier player who should prevent you from taking Kevin Durant on Monday night.
Context is key here. Yes, Embiid will be short-handed, but that means more touches for the big man, both inside and outside the three-point line. There’s also his rivalry with Heat center Hassan Whiteside to consider. The two do not like each other, yet it’s Embiid who consistently gets the better of his foe and not the other way around.
Anthony Davis is the other top-tier center available on Monday, but when looking at opponent, FPTS AVG on the season and overall team context, this is an easy choice.
One last thing. Remember… at the end of the day if you can’t afford to gamble online OR play at Draft Kings and Fan Duel then STOP. We know most DFS players need action, heck we do too, so just bet what you can afford.
Don’t go chasing money in high dollar GPP’s. Stick to cash games, and try to play on bigger slates. Avoid those night time 2 games slates. Your bankroll will thank us later.
