Centers
Sebastian Aho – CAR vs (DET) — $12.4K DraftKings /$12.7K FantasyDraft
Aho is finally starting to turn the corner on his early season offensive struggles. He’s chipped in with 4 points in his last five games for the ‘Canes.
He’s actually been removed off of the first line and down to the second line with Andrei Svechnikov — a move that’s helped spur his offensive game it seems.
Aho is still seeing top unit PP time and playing almost 20 minutes a game. His price hasn’t caught up to his recent play — he’s in a good spot against a Red Wings team with a bottom 4 penalty kill ranking on the NHL.
Tyson Jost- COL vs (DAL) — $3.7K DraftKings /$7.3K FantasyDraft
With the Avalanche losing both Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen to injuries recently, they’ve been forced to do some line juggling.
One of the beneficiaries has been Tyson Jost. The 21 year old has been tasked with centering the Avs’ second line with Andre Burakovsky and JT Compher — he’s also been given top unit PP time with Nathan MacKinnon.
His ice time has jumped from just under 10 minutes a game to start the season, to almost 16 in his last game. He’ll be getting plenty of opportunity to contribute. Jost could be an excellent value play for tonight.
Wingers
Martin Necas – CAR vs (DET) — $2.8K DraftKings /$5.8K FantasyDraft
If you’re looking for another value play with a ton of upside, consider Necas. He’s been spending time on the ‘Canes third line with Dzingel and Erik Hula.
He’s recorded 6 points on the year in 12 games — he’s also sitting with a 56% Corsi and over 55% offensive zone starts.
Playing on the top PP unit, Necas and the ‘Canes will be facing the Red Wings team that has been struggling with their penalty kill and have given up an average 3.5 goals a game.
Ondrej Palat – TB @ (NYI) — $4.6K DraftKings /$9.3K FantasyDraft
Palat is pretty much a lock in all lineups for me. He’s been moved to the top line with Brayden Point and Kucherov for the last few games.
After battling injuries the last few seasons, Palat has been looking to get his offensive game going again. He’ll obviously get plenty of chances with his current line mates and benefit greatly from seeing top unit PP time as well.
He’s coming off a 3 point game against the Devils. He also added 4 SOG and was a plus 4 on the night. I see his price climbing relatively fast — I’m taking advantage while I can.
Also Consider – Alex Killorn (TB vs NYI): Playing on Tampa’s 2nd line with Stamkos and Johnson — 3 points in his last 5, 2nd unit PP time, getting 16-20 minutes on any given night.
Defense
John Carlson – WAS @ (BUF) — $7.3K DraftKings /$14.9K FantasyDraft
The Caps return home after a long 5 game road trip that saw them go 4-0-1. A big part of that success has been the play of Carlson, aka “John Norris” according to Washington Captain Alex Ovechkin
He’s been unreal to start he season. 23 points in 14 games. He put up 6 points on that 5 game road trip and is showing no signs of slowing down. I’d expect a high scoring game between these two teams with Carlson being right in the middle of the Caps offensive attack.
There is a lot of value on the slate tonight — I’ll be taking some of those savings found elsewhere and pay up for Carlson.
Also Consider – Mikhail Sergachev (TB vs NYI): With the injury to Victor Hedman — Sergachev has been moved to the top PP unit in Tampa. 8 assists in 12 games on the year.
Goalies
Phillipp Grubauer (Probable) — COL vs (DAL) — $8.2K DraftKings /$16.5K FantasyDraft
Grubauer and the Avalanche face off against a Dallas team that has been searching for goals all season long.
They are stuck at the bottom of the NHL in scoring — with just 2.21 goals a game. There aren’t many teams in today’s NHL that can win when scoring just over 2 goals a game.
The Av’s have been one of the best teams in the league and have only lost 2 games so far on the season. Grubauer has excellent .921 SV% at home this season. I like him and the Avs’ in this game a lot.
