Centers
Nikola Jokic – vs. PHX – $9.3K DraftKings /$17.0K FantasyDraft
There is a lot of upsides early in the season for these high priced star-players. A lot of these NBA teams will rely on them early and often to get the ball rolling as Nikola Jokic will be the main man once again at the Nuggets home opener. I’ve been extremely high on Jokic from the start practically telling everyone to get some Future MVP bets on the center from the start as he could easily take over the league with the power lineup of the Nuggets.
As for this matchup, Jokic is high priced but will come with a load of points as he is taking on a Suns team that was 29th in points given up to Centers last season. Especially for FantasyDraft, it is time to select these automatic players that you know will give you the points to win.
Ryan Broekhoff – vs. NO — $3.0K DraftKings /$6.0K FantasyDraft
Here we go, a low-value player that could potentially get into double digits on both platforms. A lot of beginning DFS players often view low-value players as horrible mistakes as they can barley get 10-15 fantasy points. However, with Jokic leading the way, this is the perfect moment to play Broekhoff here. He is going to be super low owned as this will be the first game of the season against the Pelicans.
With PF Dwight Powell still out for the Mavericks, expect Broekhoff to get plenty of chances against a Pelicans team that stood up to the defending champions this week. It is worth the risk as there will be higher priced players to aim for at the other positions.
Forwards
PJ Washington – vs. MIN — $6.4K DraftKings /$12.4K FantasyDraft
Holy Moly. Did anybody else see this rookie ball out on NBA opening night? The rookie sensation would finish the game off with a team-high 27 points (9-17 FG, 7-11 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding four rebounds, an assist. He was all over the court and seemed as if he wanted to prove a point that a rookie can lead this franchise.
There should be no question asks if he gets the start here on Friday because he will. Washington gives the Hornets offense a flare it did not have last season as PJ will go up against a Timberwolves team that allowed over 35 points to the Nets forwards on Wednesday.
Frank Kaminsky vs. Nuggets – $3.4K DraftKings /$6.2K FantasyDraft
Another value guy that is showing up in a lot of my research. Kaminsky is the perfect play here against the Nuggets. It may not be pretty going up against a tough Denver defense, Kaminsky came off the bench in the Suns blowout win against the Kings and dropped nine points, four rebounds and three assists.
Even though it was preseason, remember Kaminsky finished with 22 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 8-8 FT), six rebounds, three assists, and one block in against the Nuggets in their Monday preseason game. Low-value guy that could easily hit double digits fantasy-wise again.
Guards
Damian Lillard – vs SAC — $8.8K DraftKings /$16.0K FantasyDraft
As stated above, there are a couple of high priced players I love on this Friday slate and they are loaded in the guard position. Lillard comes into this second game for the Blazers after dropping 32 points (10-21 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 9-10 FT), eight assists, four rebounds, and one steal against the tough Nuggets defense.
Now he takes on the Kings defense that was just embarrassed by the Suns’ guards. Lillard will be putting up big numbers in this game and he will stay hot towards the end of the game. Another must pick with Lillard.
Donovan Mitchell – vs. LAL — $7.7K DraftKings /$16.0K FantasyDraft
Mitchell did not waste any time into the new NBA season to outperform his value as he is coming off a 32 point performance against the Thunder. The biggest stat being he made 68 percent of his two-point attempts. LeBron looks to be trying to do too much for this Lakers team and is causing turnovers left and right. Expect Mitchell to jump on those turnovers and score fast and early in this game.
