Centers
Jaxson Hayes – vs. NOLA – $3.3K DraftKings /$6.3K FantasyDraft
Jaxson Hayes offers serious upside but was always going to be buried behind Zion Williams, Derrick Favors, Jalil Okafor and even Slenderman himself Brandon Ingram at the power forward and center positions. On Monday, things opened up with the news that Zion had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and is expected to miss at least 6-8 weeks of regular-season action.
This, by the way, is not an endorsement to draft Hayes all season. For starters, if he starts strong and keeps it going, he’ll be under nobody’s radar. But more realistically, Hayes is going to struggle as a rookie big man trying to fit between the 4 and the. Brandon Ingram is going to pick up his role. So will others on the roster who are more experienced.
This is a bold call but one we’re comfortable with. He’s going to get opportunities in Game 1 of the year and he’ll have motivation to prove he’s worthy of a rotation spot. Taking him too many more times without a real-life sample size to work off of is a bit premature. But at his cost, this is your boom-or-bust pick of the week right out of the gate.
Montrezl Harrell – vs. LAL — $6.1K DraftKings /$11.9K FantasyDraft
In a two-game opening slate, Montrezl Harrell positions as one of the spendier options should you choose to use him at center. But he’s nowhere near the level (or caliber) as an Anthony Davis, yet he offers high upside consider Paul George is out and neither Ivica Zubac nor Jamychal Green can be counted upon for consistent production at this point in their respective careers.
The Lakers will have JaVale McGee to finish lobs and then defend the rim on the other end, and quite frankly, that’s what Dwight Howard will also do when he comes in to spell the starting 5. But Harrell is going to be active in a different kind of way and as a chance to be a legitimate part of the offense.
At his price, he’s a better value tan someone like Howard.

Pascal Siakam – vs. NOLA — $7.6K DraftKings /$13.8K FantasyDraft
Kyle Lowry may be the official face of the Toronto Raptors franchise, but Pascal Siakam is ready to take over as the most important player going forward and potentially one of the Eastern Conference’s best up-and-coming stars at just 25-years-old. And that’s going to kick off on Tuesday night against a team without its prized No. 1 draft pick, Zion Williamson.
Don’t overthink this. This is Siakam’s coming out party. This is his official welcome to the world of being an NBA All-Star.
Brandon Ingram – $5.8K DraftKings /$11.3K FantasyDraft
Remember how we’re taking Siakam in part because Zion Williamson is out? That’s going to be a theme with Brandon Ingram as well.
Ingram is going to score on this team. A lot. Easy career-high levels. With Zion out, Lonzo Ball looking to distribute and defend, and Jrue Holiday (who will admittedly take on more of a scoring role now) also playing floor general, Ingram has a strong season and a strong opening night ahead of himself.
Guards
Danny Green – @ LAC — $5.3K DraftKings /$10.9K FantasyDraft
Danny Green is going to love playing with LeBron James. Maybe not the spotlight and drama that will follow so much, but on the court, it’s going to be a dream scenario for a guy who has established a reputation for catching, shooting and doing exactly those things when it matters most.
Know one thing. As a champion and elite shooter, Green is going to be an option for LeBron all game long.
Jrue Holiday – @ TOR — $7.9K DraftKings /$14.5K FantasyDraft
Kyle Lowry is tempting in this spot when you consider narrative. Narrative meaning the franchise point guard is ready to prove he can lead a defending champion. But New Orleans’ backcourt defense projects to be too good this season to give Lowry the benefit of the doubt.
Instead, we’re upping the dollars spent and going wit Holiday, who will be one of the defensive harrassassers he’ll face Tuesday night. e’ll also be vitally important to the offense, and while he’s not likely the lead the game in either scoring or assists, he could ultimately end up topping the list of points accounted for by a guard.
Lou Williams – vs. LAL — $7.2K DraftKings /$6.5K FantasyDraft
Lou Williams will sacrifice a good chunk of is offensive role this season. That’s what happens when you add Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to your rotation regardless of who you’ve lost in the process.
But with George out, Doc Rivers is going to lean on Williams not just as a scorer but as a familiar presence in the movement of the offense. Yes, as far as Sweet Lou is concerned, that’s largely in isolation sets either coming off curls or from the top. But he’s also comfortable with the offense.
