NCAA Basketball Betting – Super Tuesday’s Money-Makers
Our Sportsbooks: The No.11 Badgers Wisconsin at 15-2 SU (straight up) and 7-7-0 ATS (against the spread) attempts to remain perfect in the Big Ten when they host the Michigan Wolverines in Game 1 of Super Tuesday beginning at 7:00pm EST on The World-Wide Leader of Sports.
But for those who bet on basketball and think the Badgers are due to lose and are considering investing some coins in the maze and blue, you should know that Michigan has lost all six games against ranked teams this season by double-digits.
The Badgers, who are tied with No. 7 Indiana atop the conference at 5-0, but have covered the spread in just two of its Big Ten games. They enter this evening’s game having won nine consecutive games SU since losing 81-76 to then-No. 11 Marquette on Dec. 8 as the 4½-point home favorites. Their only loss came to then-No. 7 Duke.
They won their 30th consecutive home game against an unranked opponent on Saturday, beating Northwestern 62-50 but failed to swoop up the cash as the big 19-point home chalk.
– Badgers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU win.
– Badgers are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss.
Wisconsin joins Providence and Seton Hall as the only teams in the country to have five difference players score at least 20 points in five consecutive games this season.
– Badgers are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 Tuesday games.
– Badgers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
– Badgers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games.
In this season’s first meeting between the Badgers and Wolverines, Jon Leuer was the leading scorer for Wisconsin with a career-high 25 points in its 70-54 bankroll building win at Michigan on Jan. 2 in the conference opener for both teams.
The Badgers led 34-18 at halftime with the Wolverines scoring the fewest points in an opening half this season. Wisconsin held the Wolverines to just over 39 percent shooting for the game limited them Michigan to 5-of-18 shooting from behind the arc (27.8 percent).
Manny Harris had 16 points and DeShawn Sims added 13 for the Wolverines in the loss.
Michigan fell 68-60 to Iowa on Saturday. DeShawn Sims had 18 points and Jevohn Shepherd scored all of his career-high 11 points in the first half for the Wolverines, who dropped their fifth straight home game.
– Wolverines are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a SU loss.
– Wolverines are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a ATS loss.
Michigan, who have lost 11-of-13 SU and are off to their worst start since 1981-82 at 5-13, have covered the spread only three times this year.
The Wolverines start just one senior along with two freshman and two sophomores. Michigan ranks second-to last in the Big Ten in points per game (65.4) and rebounds per game (33.7) and is last in field goal percentage (41.0). Opponents are averaging a conference-high 71.3 points against them.
– Wolverines are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 Tuesday games.
– Wolverines are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Big Ten.
– Wolverines are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
– Wolverines are 7-19-2 ATS in their last 28 road games.
– Wolverines are 8-22-1 ATS in their last 31 games overall.
NCAAB Betting odds list Wisconsin the hefty 18-point favorites with a game total of 127.
– Favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
– Over is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.
Analysis: The Badgers haven’t covered the number at home in their last six overall at the Kohl Center, and against the Wolverines they are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings played in Wisconsin. Michigan is pretty much a mess from top-to-bottom but they find away to cover with a ton of points in their pockets.
NCAA Basketball Free Picks: Michigan Wolverines +18
In Super Tuesday’s nightcap at 9:00pm EST, the No. 3 Tennessee Volunteers will be trying to establish the best start in team history on when they visit Rupp Arena to face the unranked Kentucky Wildcats.
Tennessee is off to just the second 16-1 start in school history, matching the 2000-01 team. The Volunteers have won 11 consecutive SU since falling 97-78 to then-No. 15 Texas on Nov. 24 for their longest winning streak since the start of the 1999-2000 season.
The Volunteers are coming off a 74-69 win as double-digit favorites over Ohio State on Saturday, the team that beat them in last year’s NCAA tournament regional semifinal. The Vols’ bench outscored Ohio State’s reserves 26-0. JaJuan Smith, who leads the team with 14.8 points per game, scored 15 in the non-cover win.
Tennessee, whose streak includes wins over Vanderbilt and Mississippi, ranks fifth in the nation with 85.6 points per game and first with 20.2 assists per contest. The Volunteers are 3-0 in the SEC for the first time since 2000-01 and are trying for their first 4-0 league start since ’81-82.
– Volunteers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Tuesday games.
– Volunteers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Southeastern.
– Volunteers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
– Volunteers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 road games.
But accomplishing the feat won’t come easy considering Kentucky has won seven of eight SU versus the Vols at Rupp Arena and ten of the lat 11 games in the series.
The Wildcats, meanwhile, have dropped eight of 11 SU under first-year coach Gillispie, including an 81-70 overtime loss at Florida on Saturday. Ramel Bradley hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds to play to send the game into overtime and led Kentucky with 23 points – his sixth straight game with at least 20. Freshman Patrick Patterson, who leads the team with 16.6 points per game, added 15.
– Wildcats are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
– Wildcats are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
NCAA basketball odds list Tennessee the 4½-point favorites with a game total of 148.
– Volunteers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite of 0.5-6.5.
– Volunteers are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a road favorite.
– Wildcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog of 0.5-6.5.
– Wildcats are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games as a home underdog.
Analysis: Tennessee has been rewarded with its highest-ever ranking in Monday’s top 25 poll, but that may be a bit misleading as they’ve played a relatively soft schedule that includes wins over Arkansas-Monticello, Prairie View A&M, N.C. A&T, LA Lafayette, Chattanooga and N.C. Asheville.
Kentucky always finds a way to give the Vols all they can handle and tonight will be no different in a hostile environment in Lexington.
