His talented group of wide-outs has helped the Lions to become the seventh-ranked passing unit in the NFL.
On the flip side, the Lions passing defense is ranked 30th, behind only Cleveland and Minnesota, respectively. NFL rankings, however, can sometimes be misleading, as they are based solely on yards. While the Lions are giving up lots of yards through the air, what this stat does not tell you is that Detroit leads the league in two very important passing defense stats: they lead the NFL with 13 interceptions through seven games, and are second in forced fumbles with 13 as well.
This game is going to be decided through the air, as the Lions rushing defense matches up very well against the Broncos. Forcing Jay Cutler to throw the ball more than the coaches would like to see, against a ball-hungry secondary could turn this road trip into an exercise in anger management for the young, rising star. Many people are comparing Cutler to a young Brett Favre. What they forget to mention is that Favre was known early on especially for his mistakes.
