NCAAB: Pac-10 Double Headers
Sportsbook.com: The Pac-10 still uses old school method of scheduling.
With five pairs of teams located within close proximity of each other, the conference schedule sends two schools at a time for weekend sojourn to visit another twosome in the same proximity.
The teams begin the matchups on Thursday night and continue the road trip on the weekend, flip-flopping games.
It’s simple and easy for bettors, who can identify previous Pac-10 contests with ease.
This week, Washington State and Washington travel south to Arizona for a weekend that begins with a double header tonight.
Washington State at Arizona (8:30 PM ET)
The Washington State Cougars start the festivities in Tucson, where they have managed to win two of the last three years and are 9-1 against the spread.
Washington State is led by senior guards Derrick Low and talented Kyle Weaver. Low is a steady performer and team’s leading scorer at 14.4 points a game. He has excellent touch all over the court, shooting 47.3 percent from the field, 43.2 percent from beyond the arc and nails 81.8 percent from the free throw line. Weaver’s numbers a just slightly less, with a more well-round game, being second in assists and top thief in making steals.
The Cougs are 13-5 ATS with its veteran cast in road games when playing against a team with a winning record over the last two seasons.
Most assumed the Arizona Wildcats were lock for the NCAA Tournament, based on prior history and playing one of the toughest schedules in the country. Despite the challenging schedule, the Wildcats have yet to post a signature win. It’s great to play a number of highly ranked teams, but you have to beat a few along the way to improve record and get noticed.
Wildcats forward Chase Budinger and freshman Jerryd Bayless are what make these ‘Cats go, being the leaders for team averaging 77.9 PPG, on 51.8 percent shooting and dropping the three ball thru the net at a rate 38.9 percent at home. Arizona has been an awful play at the McKale Center in conference play with 5-16 ATS, though often as large favorite.
Washington State has covered nine of last 10 contests facing a team with a winning record, while Arizona is 13-5 ATS after playing on the road.

Washington at Arizona State (9:00 PM ET)
About 90 miles up the road the Washington Huskies will test the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe.
Lorenzo Romar’s program in Washington has lost its way, with defections and lack of production in certain upperclassmen. After losing first three Pac-10 confrontations, the players decided to hold court and had a player’s only meeting.
These fail as often as they work; however based on last week at least, it worked for the Huskies who swept the Oregon schools at home.
“It was just important to realize that we’re all in this together,” junior forward Jon Brockman said. “Any time you can get together as a team without the coaches and just talk and get everything out and get everyone on the same page, it helps a lot.”
The truer test arrives continuing the same effort in hostile environments. The utter lack of defense has reared its ugly head, especially this season with the Huskies 1-5 and 2-4 ATS in the purple jersey’s.
Opposing teams are connecting 48.6 percent of the time against the Huskies. Washington is 4-11 ATS on the road playing teams with winning records.
Arizona State will be favored and is starting to draw more then just scorpions to the desert dwelling with an 11-0 home record and 5-2 ATS mark. Coach Herb Sendik has changed the mindset of players and is starting to do so with local fans. The Sun Devils were ranked for the first time in 13 seasons, before falling to bigger, stronger Stanford on the road.
ASU is still tied for first place in the Pac-10 with forward Jeff Pendergraph leading the way. With all the talk of freshman players of impact across the country, the best one you have never heard of is James Harden. Last week at Cal he scored season high 27 points, 25 coming in second half and OT. He has done his part to contribute to the Sun Devils being 8-2-1 ATS in last 11 conference tilts.
The road team has held the edge in this series with 7-2 ATS record and Washington 4-0 SU and ATS at Wells Fargo Arena.
