A win for fourteenth Nebraska would catapult them up the AP Rankings and inch them closer to the prominence they enjoyed not too long ago. Unfortunately for them, USC is number one for a good reason.
USC Offense vs. Nebraska Defense
If you study Nebraska’s defensive front seven, you’ll see a fast, athletic unit of linebackers that get caught out of position way too often. There’s a reason they coughed out 235 rushing yards to Wake Forest, when all the Demon Deacons could manage on Boston College was two yards.
USC employs a stable of capable young backs highlighted by C.J. Gable and Stafon Johnson, who paired up for 132 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. As the USC ground game rolls through Nebraska, it will open up the secondary to quarterback John David Booty. However, bet on Carroll to keep it simple and grind out the run since his wide receiver core is so young and raw. Nebraska’s secondary is its defensive strength.
Nebraska Offense vs. USC Defense
The main problem that Nebraska has is that USC has a freighter full of game film on quarterback Sam Keller, who transferred from Arizona State. If the Cornhuskers expect Marlon Lucky to break open for huge runs, you can forget it. The USC front seven is fierce and powerful, and will dominate the Nebraska rushing game.
USC’s defense is spectacular and they know how to shut down Sam Keller, who has suffered through very little success against the Trojans. The defense should break into the backfield to rush Keller’s throws, and the secondary for the Trojans can outshine the Cornhuskers receivers.

Expect USC to roll through this one in an easy victory predicated by a wild rushing attack that should overwhelm the Cornhuskers early on.
