NFL Week 12: The Early Odds
If there’s a theme to this Thursday’s games, it’s a return to prominence by the NFC. The AFC has dominated the football landscape so far this season with New England and Indianapolis getting the bulk of the headlines.
That’s about to change on Thanksgiving as the two elite teams in the NFC take center stage in what promises to be a great day of football.
The action starts at 12:30 pm EST when the 9-1 Green Bay Packers invade Motown to face the 6-4 Detroit Lions. The Pack are listed as early three-point favorites and continue to confound their critics on a weekly basis.
Quarterback Brett Favre was supposed to be washed up years ago and the running game is considered suspect, but Green Bay continues to win in convincing fashion.
Detroit finds themselves in a must-win situation after losing to the Giants on Sunday. The NFC playoff picture is starting to get very crowded, and Detroit has a tough schedule with road games at San Diego and Green Bay, and a home tilt against Dallas still to come.
The 4:15 game on Thanksgiving has 9-1 Dallas hosting the 2-8 New York Jets. Dallas is a 14-point favorite and needs to keep winning to try to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The last thing the Cowboys want is to play a January game at the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field.
The network sponsors were expecting a much better matchup here, but the Jets have disappointed the entire metropolis of New York with a subpar season. New York was able to come up with a big home win over Pittsburgh last week and they hope to carry the momentum into a very hostile environment.
The Thursday night game has a banged-up Indianapolis squad playing at Atlanta as 11 ½-point favorites. The Colts are still saying their prayers after surviving last week, 13-10 over Kansas City. At 3-7, the Falcons aren’t playing out the string yet, but this could be their last meaningful game of the season. Look for this game to be a lot closer than most people think.
The Sunday schedule is highlighted by Buffalo (+7.5) traveling to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars. Buffalo is 5-5 and still smarting from their 56-10 whooping from New England on Sunday night. The Jaguars are a quiet 7-3 team that is right on the heels of the Colts in the AFC South. They now look to make a deep run in the playoffs with David Garrard back at quarterback.
Other spreads just released at Sportsbook.com have Seattle (-3) at St. Louis, Minnesota (+7.5) at NY Giants, New Orleans (-3) at Carolina, Washington (+3) at Tampa Bay, Houston (+3.5) at Cleveland, Oakland (+5) at Kansas City, San Francisco (+10) at Arizona, Baltimore (+9) at San Diego, and Miami (+16) at Pittsburgh on Monday night.
Thanksgiving week is one of the highlights of the NFL schedule and you don’t want to miss any of the action at Sportsbook.com.
