Golf Betting Odds – Quest For Cup Begins At Westchester
The PGA Tour wants you to care about The Barclays this year – and they’ve done a pretty good job of making sure their players care about The Barclays. All of the top players will be in the field this week as the tour kicks off its inaugural four-tournament playoff. Well, all of the top players except for one certain well-known top-ranked golfer.
If you’re looking to do some golf betting on the tournament this week, you’ve probably already noted that Tiger Woods wasn’t listed as part of the field. Woods has decided to take a pass on the event at Westchester Country Club, despite the fact that it’s the first tournament of the tour’s new postseason. The top 144 players in the FedExCup standings after last week’s Wyndham Championship all qualify for this year’s Barclays.
And Woods, of course, is the leader in those standings. After the points were reset to start the playoffs, Woods is the frontrunner with 100,000. Vijay Singh is next with 99,000, followed by Jim Furyk at 98,500, and Phil Mickelson at 98,000. Singh, Furyk, and Mickelson will now be looking to finish well at Westchester and move ahead of Woods in the standings.
Since 120 of the 144 golfers will advance to the second round of the playoffs, Woods doesn’t really need to play this weekend – the worst that can happen to him is that he falls a couple spots in the standings after The Barclays’ 50,000 points are distributed on Sunday. Still, the PGA Tour has put a lot into this four-tournament postseason, and they have to be disappointed that their No. 1 attraction has decided to give this week a pass.
So we know what the tour thinks, but what do the oddsmakers think about this week’s event? Two-time Barclays champion Ernie Els is currently pegged as the +1200 favorite at BetUS. Els won this event in both 1996 and 1997, and he’ll be looking for another high finish to move up the FedExCup standings; he starts the playoffs in just 19th place.
Furyk is next on this golf odds list at +1600, while Singh is third at +1800. Singh won this tournament last year, and he also grabbed the victory in this event in both 1993 and 1995. Mickelson is at +2000 odds, two-time winner Sergio Garcia (2001 and 2004) is at +2500 odds, and 2005 champion Padraig Harrington joins Garcia, Justin Rose, and Adam Scott at +2500. Here are the rest of the top contenders to win the tournament.

If you’re looking for some other golf lines for this week’s PGA Tour stop, you can also place wagers on the players you think will end up in the Top 10 at Westchester Country Club. Els leads that list at +110 odds, and he’s followed by Furyk (+145), Singh (+165), Mickelson (+180), Garcia (+225), Harrington (+225), Rose (+225), and Scott (+225). Els is also at +240 odds to finish in the Top 4, with the others following in expected order.
The race for the FedExCup continues next weekend with the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston; Woods is the defending champion at that event. The third round of the playoffs will take place at the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois from September 6-9, with the FedExCup finale set for The Tour Championship from September 13-16 at the East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta.
