Take it or Leave it: Week 15
Someone had the balls to question whether I am good or lucky when it comes to making my NFL Pick of the Week.
I didn’t answer him, nor should I have had to. To be one, you’ve got to be the other. And besides, as long as the cash keeps coming in, who cares?
It’s been a great year and the New York Giants added to the fun last week. While inching closer to a playoff berth, the Giants added some money to my wallet in the process with a 16-13 win over Philly as three-point dogs.
If you read this piece every week, and any wise guy should, than I’m going to sound like a broken record when I tell you that I’ve cashed in eight of the last 10 weeks of NFL play. The record through the first 14 weeks of the NFL season is a very profitable 10-3-1 with my Pick of the Week.
No matter what happens these last few weeks, it’s been a great season but I know you want a few more weeks of winning so I’ve got three more picks up my sleeve.
I checked the board a few times before making my pick this week as the schedule has quite a few intriguing matchups and a lot of intriguing lines. Especially interesting is the game down in Tampa between the Falcons and the hometown Buccaneers.
I know the Miami Dolphins are winless this season but is there a team in the league that is in more disarray than the Atlanta Falcons? What a mess that franchise is in.
As if losing your star quarterback before training camp wasn’t enough, a team that now sits 3-10 had its recently signed head coach skip town faster than Nick Saban can fly from Miami to Tuscaloosa.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, players were running around the field Monday night showing their support for their quarterback, Michael Vick, who was just sentenced to 23 months in jail for his involvement in a criminal dog fighting operation.
It was also noted that the star of the Atlanta defense, DeAngelo Hall, was running around the field telling New Orleans coach Sean Payton he wanted to play for him next year for the minimum salary. It’s one thing to know you want out of town when free agency approaches; it’s another to go out of your way to tell an opposing coach you want to play for his team.
Clearly, all hell has broken loose in Atlanta and the team is in an out-of-control downwards spiral until someone can step up and take charge. Even if someone began to take charge, would the players listen? They seem to be so lost at this point they don’t care what happens on the field.
It’s a sad situation for an NFL franchise and a tough situation for ownership but it’s also a great time for bettors.
The Buccaneers steamrolled the Falcons 31-7 a month ago and now they host them in their own park. Even better, Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia will be making his return to the lineup after missing the last two games with a back injury.
Atlanta is in so much disarray, you wonder if they’ll show up on Sunday or watch the games from the comfort of their homes.
Free Pick: I’ll take a team fighting for the playoffs over a mess like that any day. Tampa Bay is a great pick at -13. Take it or Leave it.

NOTE: As always, my picks are not guaranteed. I am not an expert handicapper and everything I say can, and likely will, blow up in my face. Take my thoughts, or leave them, simple as that.
