Spread – Cardinals (+3) vs. Bengals (-3) Over/Under 48
It’s hard to decide what I loved more last week. The cash I won with my Chargers’ pick or Peyton Manning throwing his hands up in disgust with every interception and incomplete pass.
While most of America loves Manning, I love watching him fail. Why this guy became the face of the NFL, I’ll never know. Yes, he’s talented but he’s not a guy I want as a role model for my kids.
The guy is not a team player. Don’t believe me? Just watch his reaction every time a pass is incomplete. First he shrugs his shoulders, then he points to the receiver with a look of “I can’t believe you dropped my pass, it was perfect,” while shaking his head in disgust before finally returning to the huddle.
Not to mention the fact that, in a game when he threw six interceptions and led directly to his team’s loss, he had the nerve to undermine the coaching staff on the bench. And who can forget when Manning threw his entire offensive line under the bus after the AFC Championship loss to Pittsburgh a few years back?
That was one of the best offensive lines in football, not to mention teammates that stood by him for years, and he showed them up in a post-game press conference. Good Job!
The examples are endless and I could rant all day but at some point you want my pick. Just so you don’t forget, after last week’s victory, my NFL Pick of the Week record improves to 6-3-1 this season.
If you’ve been betting against my favorite weekly pick, it’s been a rough season and a rough last few weeks as I’ve gone 4-1-1 since Week 4.
This week, I’ve got my eyes set on the matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the Cincinnati Bengals. Entering the season with high expectations, Cincinnati was 2-6 heading into last weekend’s game with the Ravens.
A victory over the Ravens seems to have won the public back. So far, 73% of bettors are backing the Bengals who enter this weekend’s home game against the Cardinals as three-point favorites.
But at what point do you stop believing the hype? The Bengals have been a hyped team for a number of years but they only have one season, an 11-5 2005 campaign, where the record backs that hype.
You have to remember that two of the Bengals’ three victories this season came against the Ravens. Baltimore’s offense, or lack of it, can be attributed to both losses as they turned over the ball 12 times in those two games. Take away half of those turnovers and the Bengals might still be at the one or two win mark right now.
I realize Arizona also fits the mold of a hyped team that hasn’t lived up to the billing over the past few seasons but, unlike the Ravens last week, the Cardinals will put points on the board. Arizona also has a few credible wins this season, notably the victories against Seattle and Pittsburgh.
Against a porous Cincinnati defense, you know Cardinals’ running back Edgerrin James will have one of his better showings of the year. Receivers Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald are both healthy and Kurt Warner is showing no lingering effects from an elbow injury.
Free Pick: It’s all looking good for Arizona this week and that’s why I’m taking them at +3. Take it or Leave it.
