Bet On NBA – Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs
Our Sportsbooks: Wednesday’s NBA contest delivered by The World-Wide Leader of Sports starting at 9:00pm EST is a NBA betting dandy as the San Antonio Spurs (-6) welcome the Los Angeles Lakers (+6) to the AT&T Center for a Western Conference battle.
The Lakers won two of three against the Spurs in 2006-07 and this will be the third meeting between the two Western Conference powerhouses this season. The Lakers are 4-1 ATS (against the spread) in the last five contests played in San Antonio.
In the first meeting on Nov. 13 this year, San Antonio claimed a 107-92 road victory as the 8-point underdogs with the game playing over the total of 198. Spurs’ Bruce Bowen successfully guarded Kobe Bryant, he even outscored him.
Bowen went 6-of-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 23 points and Bryant had 18. Tony Parker poured in 26 points, Manu Ginobili added 17 and Tim Duncan had only 5 for San Antonio and was just 2-for-13 from the field.
Over his career, Duncan puts up 21.1 ppg and shoots a respectable 45.8 percent from the floor. At home, he’s averaging 21.4 ppg over his career and shooting a dazzling 51.9 percent.
In the second and most recent meeting on Dec. 13, Los Angeles posted a 102-97 home victory but failed to cover the spread as the 6-point favorites, but the under prevailed in this one being set at 201. Bryant scored 30 points in the money-dropping win. The Spurs were without Duncan and Tony Parker. The Lakers out rebounded the Spurs 50-40, and the Spurs had 29 assists to the Lakers’ 15.
When the Lakers and Spurs take the floor, the under has cashed in five of the last seven games overall, and the under is 6-1 in the last seven meetings played at the AT&T Center. As well, the road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 contests in the series and the underdog has barked in four of the last five between the two.
The Lakers are coming off a decisive 116-99 cover victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday night in an important win. Bryant had 17 points and a season-high 11 assists.
– Lakers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU (straight up) win of more than 10 points.
– Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.
But more importantly center Kwame Brown, who’s filling the shoes of Andrew Bynum after he dislocated his kneecap and suffered a deep bone bruise last Sunday and will be out for at least eight weeks, had a solid game with seven points and a season-high 11 rebounds.
Prior to Monday’s win, fans booed Brown every time he touched the ball for several minutes before he came out for good after committing his fifth foul with 3:50 left in the third period in a 106-98 home loss to Phoenix on Thursday. He had eight points and six rebounds over 25:12 minutes.
The Lakers also have been playing without center Chris Mihm (sore right Achilles’ tendon) and forward Vladimir Radmanovic (sprained right ankle). They hope both will be back in the next couple weeks. The Lakers also are without reserve forward Trevor Ariza for eight weeks after he broke his foot at Sunday’s practice.
The Spurs are also coming off a cover win by beating the hosting Charlotte Bobcats on Monday 95-86. The victory ended a minor two-game slide for San Antonio. Duncan had 19 points and 10 rebounds and five Spurs scored in double figures as San Antonio ended a three-game stretch where it failed to reach 90 points.
– Spurs are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games following a SU win.
– Spurs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win.
– Spurs are 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 games playing on 1 days rest.
Ginobili and Parker added 16 points apiece and Michael Finley scored 13 for the Spurs, who shot 49 percent in only their third win in seven games.
The Lakers come into Wednesday’s game against the Spurs second in the Pacific at 27-12 as the third-ranked offense in the NBA, scoring a robust 107.8 ppg. Those numbers barely move when they’re on the road, where they score 106.3 ppg.
Defensively, Los Angeles is allowing 101.4 ppg and opponents are shooting 44.1 percent from the floor. On the road, points allowed jumps to 106.3 ppg and foes shoot a solid 47.7 percent.
Bryant is the league’s second-leading scorer with 27.4 ppg. Against the Spurs, he’s posting 24.8-points per contest and shooting a solid 43.1 percent from the floor in his career. Away from the Staples Center over his career, he’s averaging 24.2 ppg and knocking down 44.24 percent of his shots.
– Lakers are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 vs. Western Conference.
– Lakers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Wednesday games.
– Lakers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games.
The Spurs enter this one third in the Southwest at 26-13 with an offense scoring only 97.2 ppg and shooting 45.8 percent. Home cooking hardly helps their offense output as they score 98.8 ppg, but do shoot a respectable 46.5 percent in front of the home folks.
What San Antonio lacks offensively, they make up for defensively with the NBA’s third-best unit that’s allowing a stingy 91.5 ppg, holding opponents to 45.4 shooting percent from the floor.
But the Spurs haven’t beaten a winning team in more than a month. They have dropped their last seven games against teams with .500 records or better since a 102-91 win against Denver on Dec. 15. The defending NBA champions are just 9-10 in their last 19 games overall.
– Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference.
– Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games.
– Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.
– Spurs are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
NBA odds list San Antonio the 6-point favorites with a game total of 197.
– Spurs are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite.
– Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
– Lakers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog.
– Lakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a road underdog.
Analysis: The absence of Bynum really hurts the Lakers. Brown will do a decent job at best filling in for Bynum, but in the first three games as Bynum’s replacement, Brown has a combined 25 points and only two assists, fouling out in one of the three. Brown will get schooled by Duncan in this one.
