NFL Futures Betting – 2008 New York Jets Wagering Outlook
The New York Jets, (4-12 SU, 6-9-1 ATS, 6-9-1 O/U) got a rude wake-up call in 2007, posting a pitiful 4-12 record just one season after head coach Eric Mangini led the club to an unexpected 10-6 mark in his very first season in 2006.

Now, the Jets will enter the 2008 season looking to improve on what was a season of change for Mangini and his mostly young team.
The NFL online sports wagering community should know that the Jets failed equally well both, against the spread, (ATS) and in Over/Under (O/U) wagers, posting identical 6-9-1 records in each online sports wagering category.

New York went 2-5-1 ATS at home while posting a better, 4-4 ATS mark on the road. Likewise, New York also posted a slightly better road O/U mark, (3-4-1 O/U) than the one they posted at home, (3-5-0 O/U) last season.
New York will enter the 2008 season with renewed hopes of improving in every area after posting mediocre numbers across the board, but specifically on offense, where the team ranked just 26th overall.
Mangini will also have to decide on which quarterback he is going to stick with this season after bouncing back and forth last season between veteran Chad Pennington and youngster Kellen Clemens, though Pennington is being deemed the definite starter at the moment.
New York also has to deal with the distraction of starting tight end Chris Baker who is upset with management because of his now, out-dated contracted.
Baker has repeatedly ripped Jets’ management for what he feels are low-ball offers and even indicated that part of New York’s troubles from last season were caused by the fact that the team went through the same scenario with former guard Pete Kendall before the team eventually traded Kendall prior to the start of the regular season.
“I can guarantee you, after this is all said and done, there will be somebody here next year, going through the same thing because of the way things are handled here,” Baker said. “My advice to guys would be, if you’re going to do anything with this organization, get it in writing.”
Contract problems aside, the Jets will need to improve on defense in a big way and drafted athletic linebacker Vernon Gholston with the sixth overall pick to help speed up the process.
Even with the addition of Gholston, who should find his way into the starting lineup at some point, likely later in the regular season, New York could have trouble again with its defensive secondary, particularly at right corner and free safety.
The Jets are also hoping that running back Thomas Jones can get back to being the productive rusher he was for the Chicago Bears, though New York will have to do a much better job of opening up holes for the straight-ahead running style Jones has used so effectively throughout his career.
