This is a rivalry only by name because these teams do not play in the same conference and there doesn’t appear to be any big rivalry type trend for us to wrap ourselves around.
Because of that I keep wondering to myself why the Bulldogs aren’t favored by more. They play in a much tougher conference than the Yellowjackets and have been on fire lately.
Georgia has beaten both Florida and Auburn in the past month and come into this game on a 5 game winning streak.
Georgia Tech has beaten Army, North Carolina, Duke, and lost to Virginia Tech in the past month.
The Yellowjackets will go to a bowl because of their 7 wins, but beating North Carolina by 2 points last week probably doesn’t set them up very well in this game.
First, a couple of trends:
The Georgia Bulldogs are 7-3-1 against the spread versus a team with a winning record.
The Road Team in this series is 7-1-1 against the spread in the last 9 meetings.
The Georgia Bulldogs are the road team, giving up a measly 4.5 points, and play well against winning teams anyhow. They should romp in this one, right?
Right! The Yellowjackets have little chance against a Bulldogs team that is just en fuego. Earlier in the season the Georgia Bulldogs won on traditional strength, great defense. Lately, they’ve been opening up the offense and look at what has happened?
The Bulldogs have scored 45 against Auburn, 44 against Troy, and 42 against Florida. They only scored 24 versus the Kentucky Wildcats last week but all that shows is that the Bulldogs don’t have to light up in every game.
Georgia can, however, if they need to which is why the Yellowjackets just aren’t going to get it done in this one.
