The English Premier League continues in what will be on of the more anticipated games of the matchday as West Ham goes up against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham

West Ham have a very good team on paper, but they have been utterly abysmal this year as they find themselves only one spot above the relegation zone. Sebastien Haller was brought in from Eintracht Frankfurt to be this team’s number one striker, but after the first 12 games with his new club he has only amassed 4 goals in twelves games.

He certainly has not lived up to that 40 million euro price tag and now the club is a bit hamstrung in terms of making further improvements this winter transfer window. The offense is not the only problem for this West Ham team either, as this backline has been one of the worst for West Ham in recent memory as they have already allowed 23 goals on the season.

This defense has been at it’s worst in the last three games as well as they have allowed 9 goals in three matches, and it is not like they are playing offensive world-beaters with games against Tottenham, Newcastle and Burnley. It is unlikely that West Ham steps up defensively in this spot, so it will likely be up to the offense to get the job done here as Chelsea are prone to giving up chances at their own end.

Chelsea

Chelsea have been flying high this year after what was a very disappointing campaign last season. They appear as though they are going to get into the top for of the Premiership with relative ease and it also looks like they have a great chance of advancing in their Champions League group.

These results are certainly a far cry from what many pundits were tipping for this team during the preseason as Chelsea’s summer transfer ban was supposed to be their outdoing. Little did those pundits know Chelsea had hit a rich vein of youngsters like Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount who would propel this team to their current heights without the need to spend hundreds of millions of euros on new players.

Look for Chelsea to play a very attacking match as Frank Lampard is probably going to be going with a 4-3-3 formation for this contest. With the amount of attacking options this Chelsea team has, just about any combination of 3 will give this West Ham backline fits.

Yes Chelsea should crush in this spot as their offense has a great matchup here against this very poor defense from West Ham. There really is not value in going for a Chelsea win, however, as the bookies are well ahead of us in that regard.

For me the over looks like the way to go as I expect Chelsea to put up at least 3 goals in this match, but Chelsea have also been prone at the back so West Ham answering with one of their own is certainly not out of the question.
