When Sheffield United got promoted to the Premier League they shocked everyone with their outstanding defense and organization and honestly it looked like they were primed to stay in the top flight for many years to come.
That scary defense is now a thing of the past however, as this team has managed to concede 62 goals so far this year, which seemed like it was almost impossible coming off of their performances last year.
Sheffield United should bring some momentum and confidence into this game though, as they were able to go on the road last time out and beat Everton at Goodison Park by a score of 1-0 in a performance that mirrored the 2019-2020 side.
Head coach Heckingbottom will likely lineup with a 3-4-3 formation again, as the wing backs seem to work to spring this offense as they have been able to get quality deliveries into the box with talents like Stevens and Baldock on either side.
Newcastle
Newcastle currently sit just one spot above the relegation zone in 17th with a record of 10-9-17 and although they are out of the woods in terms of relegation this season, there is still a ton of work to be done on this roster in order to keep this team in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
By far the biggest problem for this side in 2021 is the defense, as they have allowed 62 goals this season and that really is a shockingly bad stat when you consider that they usually play 5 defenders at the back.
Those poor defensive numbers were on full display last time out, as they conceded 4 times to Manchester City in an eventual 4-3 loss, so it will be interesting to see what management do to sure up this back line heading into next year.
Although he is not often involved in the offensive side of things, I would be on the look out for Jonjo Shelvey in this matchup, as he is the main play maker in the center of the park and Newcastle’s fate often times rests in the hands of the 29 year old Romford native.
