The UEFA Champions League returns this Friday afternoon and a very tight and interesting tie lay ahead of us when Lyon travel to Turin, Italy to defend their 1-0 first leg lead against The Old Lady.

Lyon is coming off an impressive, but bitterly disappointing loss in the cup final against PSG in a game they were able to hold off the PSG offense for the entire game before falling 6-5 in a penalty shootout. Now Lyon set their eyes on the most coveted prize in European football, as they look to back up their initial win over Juventus back in France.

The key man for Lyon is Memphis Depay who is dangerous in front of goal which is proven by his outstanding goal tally in this year’s competition with 5 goals in 5 games. Lyon are stout defensively, and if they could hold off PSG for over 90 minutes they certainly could blank Ronaldo and Juventus to advance to the round of 8.
That is not the most likely scenario, though, as I expect Juventus to get on the board in this one and therefore Memphis Depay’s clinical finishing may become key for Lyon to move onto the next round.
Juventus FC
Juventus is still a strong all-around team, but they did not have it all their own way in Serie A this year, and those chinks in the armor were evident in their first leg game with Lyon. They were unable to get anything going offensively in that one, and it very may be up to CR7 to put on yet another masterclass to see his team through.
Juventus will almost certainly play with three center-backs in defense with two full-backs on the wings whose pace will be critical going forward specifically Juan Cuadrado who has plenty of pace. This style has led to them being left open at the back at times, and although the 43 goals they conceded in Serie A this year is not a bad defensive record, it is not exactly what we expect from Juventus after they have utterly dominated the league for a decade.
It is also concerning that one of their worst performances of the year have come after the break with a shocking loss to AC Milan by a score of 4-2 just a few short weeks ago.

This should be a tense affair with few chances for either side going forward. I do not expect Juventus to push everyone forward from the get-go and could certainly see this one ending by a score of 1 or 2 to nill. I do understand the threat that Lyon presents and that Juventus have not been flawless at the back, but I do believe we see the best of them this Friday and they are able to keep the clean sheet and strike at the other end.
