The Dynamo suffered another big loss this past week, losing 5-0 to Atlanta United. Getting a red card in the opening minutes allow Atlanta to take control and the Dynamo pretty much were overpowered the entire match. This was a road game, so the loss gives them a 1-8 record away from home. They also failed to move up in the West standings. As of right now, they are in 8th with 27 points. A win would keep them within reach of the final playoff spot, depending on what FC Dallas does in their game.
Alberth Elis is the player who was given the red card in the match with Atlanta. Whether or not he deserved a red card matters little now and therefore he will be suspended from this game. He is tied for the lead in goals scored for the Dynamo with 7, so his suspension will be a big deal. The Dynamo have scored an average of 0.89 goals per game on the road this season, so even with Elis, they are not good. Now they must find a way to generate scoring if they want to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.
The defending completely fell apart against Atlanta as I mentioned before. Sure, they were down to 10 men, but even still to allow 5 goals in one match is very poor. They are now allowing an average of 2.33 goals per game when away from home. Maybe they go with a more defensive formation this time, but I expect them to continue to be soft on the back line.
Toronto got a big home win over the Red Bulls recently. They won this game 3-1 and looked much better than they have majority of this season. They are now in 6th in the East and can continue to rise with another home win. Speaking of being at home, they have won 5 out of their 11 matches in front of their home fans, so they definitely are a better team in this regard.
Toronto’s attack exploded for three goals against New York and will be looking to stay in form. They were led by Jozy Altidore, who now has 7 goals on the year. They average 2.18 goals per game at home and given how the Dynamo have been defending, I expect at least two goals to be scored for Toronto.
The Toronto FC defense really picked it up against New York some of their previous matches. They allow an average of 1.64 goals per game at home, but with Houston missing a key attacker, Toronto should be able to have a good game defensively.
