Toronto has been the best team in the MLS this season, showing no MLS Cup loss hangover. DC is the worst side in the Eastern Conference this season so this is definitely a mismatch.
The US Open Cup is supposed to be fun but it was nearly a disaster for DC. They were down 1-0 to an amateur side before winning 4-1.
The win was key but I would not read too much into those four goals as the main reason they have struggled this season is that scoring has been a challenge.
The level of competition is a huge leap from the last time they took the pitch and only a couple of players have found the back of the net more than once for DC this season.
Injuries further limit DC’s ability to threaten opponents and with the way that Toronto scores you have to think they will need to post at least one goal to achieve a result.
That is no gimme given they have only scored times over the course of 14 matches.
Toronto has gotten off to a great start this season even though injuries and international responsibilities have meant they have not always had their full roster to select from.
It looks like their dynamic trio of Seba Giovinco. Jozy Altidore and Michael Bradley will all be on the pitch on Saturday.
Giovinco is a delight to watch. He has only 6 goals but given they have come in just 10 matches there are only a few players in the league who are averaging more goals per game.
His creativity and ability to turn seemingly meaningless plays into scoring opportunities are part of what makes Toronto special.
Bradley is coming off a great performance for the US Men’s National Team and with Jozy Altidore gives Toronto FC a very strong physical presence.
Altidore also has netted 6 goals for Toronto this season and is dangerous on corners and other set plays where he can really use his size.
Toronto in unbeaten in their last 8 MLS home games. It does not look like that streak will be threatened on Saturday.
Free DC United vs. Toronto FC MLS Prediction:
There is no value on taking the low hanging fruit of Toronto win. Odds are they win easily though so look hard at the goal line option.
