This one is very interesting. Argentina has been struggling through a couple of games but I believe if they can get a win in this match they will be able to advance, provided that Iceland loses to Croatia.

Nigeria scored a big win over Iceland to make this a win and you are in for the Super Eagles as well.

Before the tournament started Argentina was in that second tier of contenders…now they might be considered a long shot to even advance to the knockout stage after losing 3-0 to Croatia.

For a team that is supposed to be loaded with offensive talent they are having a really hard time finding the back of the net and the Croatians are not especially strong defensively. In this match they are heavily favoured and more talented but if they are not ready emotionally it might not matter.

The key for this one is going to be taking some of the pressure of Lionel Messi. I am in the camp that a few international games would only add to his legacy, not tear it apart, but they need someone else to make some of the plays too.

He draws so much attention and it should be creating more opportunities. Nigeria is a very young team and I think that if Argentina shows just enough patience some of the other players on the pitch will have enough success to get Argentina to the next stage.

Nigeria

The story of Nigeria coming in was whether they were too young to be much of a factor in this World Cup. Losing to Croatia did not get anyone’s attention but beating Iceland did, as I think they are everyone’s second favourite team this season.

Now they take on Argentina with a simple win and advance formula.

The star of the match for the Super Eagles was striker Ahmed Musa, who scored both goals. He plays in the Premier League with Leicester City so he knows what it is like to be in an underdog role and I suppose he is comfortable playing in Russia where he has played most of his professional football.

It stands to reason that if Nigeria is going to topple Argentina, Musa, or someone is going to have to step up and try and match Messi and Co.

This will be an interesting tactical challenge for Nigeria. They could probably advance by virtue of a tie but it does not seem to be in their nature to play for that kind of result. I expect them to be quite spirited and to take some chances.

That might open things up for Argentina but at the same time if they get a lead they can really force Argentina to chase.

It is desperation time for both of these clubs but especially for Argentina, which actually had a reasonable notion before the tournament began oof being a factor. Now they know what they have to do…win.

But they have known that all tournament and are still sitting on just one point after two matches.

The odds say that this should be an easy win for Argenina but nothing has been easy for them in the tournament so far.

Can they win with ease and help you collect on the moneyline, spread and the over, of course but making those wagers has to feel a little uneasy for this one. I wish I knew what the preseason lines would have been for comparison.

Odds are you are getting a little more value now but that is not a reason to bet it, I don’t think.
