Two great teams with nearly identical records meet Monday night when the Washington Capitals head north to Canada to take on the Montreal Canadiens, in what should be a great matchup.
Both squads are coming off good wins in their previous games and will look to keep that momentum going on Monday.
Washington Capitals
The Metropolitan Division continues to be a very tight race, with Washington sitting in 4th place but only five points away from the 1st place Columbus Blue Jackets.
Every game matters for the teams in this division and Washington will look to get a big win against the Atlantic Division’s Montreal Canadiens.

The Capitals have played solid hockey all year and have won five straight games, including a tough 1-0 win over Ottawa on Saturday night.
Captain Alex Ovechkin is having a very good year, which is no surprise.
People seem down on him because he’s not on pace for 50 goals, but he’s still doing a lot for this Capitals squad. Ovi has 18 goals and 12 assists on the year, including two goals and two assists over the last five games.
The captain has had a lot of help this season. Right winger T.J. Oshie has shown why he was brought over from St. Louis a couple of seasons ago. He has 13 goals and seven assists on the year, including three goals and two assists in his last five games.
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal is having a great season and is starting to ensure that the country to the United States’ north will have at least one representative in the 2016-2017 Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Canadiens have won three straight and four of the last five games, including a good win over fellow Canadians, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Left winger Max Pacioretty has been wonderful for Montreal this year and hasn’t been talked about nearly as much as some of his counterparts with similarly impressive stats.
On the year, Pacioretty has 19 goals and 15 assists, including five goals and an assists in the last five games.
Two-way defenseman Shea Weber has been an important piece for Montreal as well. He has 10 goals and 16 assists. In the last five games, he has a goal and five assists.

Montreal will need to play well on both sides of the ice and get some offense from Pacioretty in order to beat a very good Washington team.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 3-2 in Montreal’s last five games
- Washington is 3-1-1 in the last five games on the road
Free Washington Capitals vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Hockey Prediction:
Montreal is in the NHL’s top five in both goals scored and goals against. However, Washington gets quality offensive production night in and night out and is a healthier team than the Canadians. I like Washington to get the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5
Both teams have great offensive weapons. I like the Over in this one.
