Coming off a wild 8-7 win over Washington, the Penguins head for another tough matchup against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens are coming off a 1-0 loss to the Red Wings and are looking to get back to the explosive offense they are known for. They’ll need to against a great team like Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins could not be having a better offensive season. Seriously, they couldn’t. They sit atop the league in goals scored with 153 and are averaging 3.56 goals per contest.
Sidney Crosby is continuing his future Hall of Fame career by posting some fantastic numbers through 43 games. Crosby has 27 goals and 23 assists on the year, including a goal and seven assists over his last five games.

The offense is just better with him on the ice and his quick pace and brilliant stickhandling are tough to match up against.
Center Evgeni Malkin has been wonderful this year, as well. He has 21 goals and 28 assists on the season, including five goals and an assist in his last five. He posted an impressive hat trick in that crazy 8-7 game against Washington on Monday night.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a complaint to make about the offense.
However, it’s the defense that has proved costly at times. The Pens rank 24th in the NHL in goals against and have given up 131 on the season, including the seven they gave up last night.
Montreal Canadiens
Montreal continues its great 2016-2017 campaign and has been extremely good on both sides of the ice. The Canadiens have won five out of eight and are sitting atop the Atlantic Division.
Left winger Max Pacioretty has been wonderful for Montreal this year and hasn’t been talked about nearly as much as some of his counterparts with similarly impressive stats.
On the year, Pacioretty has 20 goals and 17 assists, including a goal and two assists over his last five games.
Two-way defenseman Shea Weber continues to be an important piece for Montreal as well. He has 10 goals and 18 assists. In the last five games, he has two assists for the Habs.

Montreal’s strength against a team like Pittsburgh is its defense. The Canadiens have given up the league’s 7th least goals on the season. The team gives up an average of just 2.51 goals per game.
Montreal will need to play well on both sides of the ice and get some offense from Pacioretty in order to beat a very good Pittsburgh team.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 4-1 in Pittsburgh’s last five games
- Montreal is 1-4 ATS in the last five games
Free Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Hockey Prediction:
Pittsburgh is feeling it on the offensive end. Against Montreal, which hasn’t looked great offensively recently, I like the Penguins to get the W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Pittsburgh ML
Both teams have great offensive weapons, but I think Pittsburgh will pull this one out. The money line for the Penguins should be a solid bet.
