The Philadelphia Flyers, fresh off their week-long break, head to Brooklyn after playing the New Jersey Devils the day before.
Both the Flyers and Islanders have been snakebitten by terrible goaltending this season, but offense hasn’t been a problem for either squad.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have gone ice cold after winning 10 straight games from the middle of November until mid-December.
Once thought to be one of the NHL’s best teams, Philadelphia has won just three of its last 14 games, a far cry from where they were six weeks ago.

As it’s been for the last couple of seasons, the Flyers are struggling to find quality goaltending. Michal Neuvirth showed promise to be the team’s No. 1 goalie for the future last season, but a string of injuries over the last two years has made that rather difficult.
Neuvirth recently returned after a lower-body injury kept him out for more than a month, and the team has struggled with fellow netminder Steve Mason filling in during his absence.
Though offense is not an issue in Philadelphia, goaltending definitely is. It’s tough to win in the NHL when both of your goaltenders possess save percentages under .900.
New York Islanders
The Islanders, who were one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams last season, are currently the worst with just 44 points in the standings.
Once led by goalie Jaroslav Halak, the Isles parted ways with last year’s starter and made Thomas Greiss their starter going forward. Greiss has played well over the last two seasons, and his save percentage of .927 is one of the best in the NHL.
Greiss will be the man going forward, but he’ll need some help from his defense that’s giving up 33 shots on goal per game.

New York has won three of its last four games and has outscored its opponents 16-9 in that span. The Isles shutout the Bruins and Stars on Jan. 16 and Jan. 19 respectively, so the defense is finally starting to show signs of life.
New York won’t have to leave Barclays Center until Feb. 3, and notching some much-needed home wins could help turn their season around.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Islanders are 2-5 on back-to-back games.
- Islanders are 12-8-4 at home.
- Islanders O/U is 2-5 in their last seven games.
- Flyers are 3-11 SU in their last 14 games.
- Flyers are 0-9 SU in their last 9 road games.
Free Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Flyers haven’t won a road game since Dec. 14, so I don’t have much confidence in them in this spot.
And even though the Islanders are just 2-5 in back-to-back games, they’re starting to play much better defense and have the chance to keep the momentum going at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: New York ML
I’ll side with the Islanders.
