The Ottawa Senators currently sit in second place in the Atlantic Division, behind their fellow Canadians in Montreal.
The New Jersey Devils haven’t been as fortunate this season, ranking second last in the Metro Division and well out of a playoff spot at this time.
The senators peripheral stats suggest that they are in that middle tier of teams in the league, currently ranking 18th overall in goals per game and 13th overall in goals against, at marks of 2.6 and 2.7, respectively.
Mark Stone has continued to develop into a star for the Sens, despite only being drafted in the 6th round back in 2010. He leads the team in goals with 20 on the year, and has registered 41 total points which is good for second.
Mike Hoffman and Kyle Turris rank as the next best point producers amongst the Senators’ forwards, each tallying identical lines of 18 goals and 19 assists for 37 points.
All-star Erik Karlsson is the class of point getters amongst defenseman, along with Brent Burns of the Sharks. Karlsson leads his team in points with 45 on the season and is averaging 26:54 TOI per game.
Mike Condon has been a great find for the Sens to offset the time that Craig Anderson has spent away from the team.
On the year, Condon owns a .912 SV% and a 2.56 GAA with 16 wins. Anderson has recently returned to the team and may start taking the bulk of the starts.
New Jersey Devils
New Jersey took a step to addressing their offensive woes this past off-season with the trade for Taylor Hall.
However, despite Hall performing up-to-standard, the rest of the team as a whole have lagged and they rank 29th overall in goals per game.
Hall has registered 13 goals and 36 points in 45 games played this season, which is best among any Devils’ player. They do have five players with 30 or more points, though just seven with more than 20.
The Devils will surely be sellers come the trade deadline if they continue at this rate, and will have a number of holes to fill in their lineup.
They will look to replace the loss of Adam Larsson on the blueline, and add to their corps of young forwards or picks.
Cory Schneider hasn’t has a great season to date, with a .912 SV% and a 2.67 GAA.
The defense in front of him is certainly worse without Larsson, but a turnaround from Schneider’s game would be the greatest impact for the team if they look to go on a run to a wildcard spot.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Senators rank 18th goals per game at 2.6
- Ottawa is 3-2 in February games
- Ottawa is 13-10-0 on the road this year
- Erik Karlsson is second in defenseman scoring with 45 points.
- New Jersey is 5-4-1 in their last 10 games
- New Jersey is 11-10-4 at home this year
Free Ottawa Senators vs New Jersey Devils NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Devils will need a better offensive scoring if they want to outduel the Senators’ offense and strong goaltending they’ve been receiving from Anderson (.927 SV%).
The Sens have rebounded from two bad shutout losses against Buffalo and St. Louis near the beginning of February to record consecutive wins, including a shutout in Anderson’s return last game.
