The coaching change seems to be a beneficial change for the Islanders, who are now under the instruction of Doug Weight. Or maybe it was the recent announcement that the Barclays Center is kicking the team out that has lit the fire under them…
The Rangers continue their strong season into February and their head coach, Alain Vigneault, was recently handed a three-year contract extension for another strong performance.
New York Rangers
The battle of New York sees the Rangers enter the game with a much better record, at 37-18-1 on the year. They currently sit in a three-way tie for second best in the Metro Division, with 75 points on the season.
For most of the year, the Rangers have had a balanced scoring attack. They currently have 12 players with more than 20 points, with JT Miller leading the way with 46.
Michael Grabner has been quite the find for the Blueshirts, a under-the-radar addition who has now produced 26 goals on the year, the most of any Ranger.
Captain, Ryan McDonagh, continues to lead the blueline with 32 points and is averaging the most icetime of any Ranger, at 24:20 per game.
Antti Raanta has been another great add for New York, actually having better number than Henrik Lundqvist on the year.
Raanta owns a .920 SV% and a 2.32 GAA, but don’t be mistaken, this is still Lundqvist’s crease. Lundy has a .911 SV% and a 2.68 GAA this season.
New York Islanders
The Islanders have gone 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and appear to be reacting favorably under the new voice of Doug Weight, who took over coaching duties from Jack Capuano.
Captain, John Tavares, has given his support to Weight and has registered five points in six February games to date. He leads the team with 46 points in 54 games.
The same can be said for both Josh Bailey, who has six points in that span, and Anders Lee, who has nine. Lee leads the team now with 21 goals on the year.
The Islanders rank 7th overall in total team scoring, with an average of 3.0 goals per game.
On the blueline, Nick Leddy leads the way in both icetime (22:59) and points (31), much in the same fashion as Ryan McDonagh of the opposition.
Thomas Greiss has taken over the starting role since the downturn in the play of Jaroslav Halak. Greiss owns a very nice .922 SV% on the year with a 2.42 GAA and two shutouts.
NHL Betting Trends:
