Coming off a tough loss in MSG to the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Rangers head on the road to take on the increasingly tough Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Leafs, off a wild OT win over Winnipeg on Tuesday night, will look to get their third win in a row, shaking off a period of poor play that saw them lose five of seven.
New York Rangers
New York has been a good team in a great division all season. Sitting 4th in the Metropolitan Division, the Rangers are looking to gain some ground and fight their way out of the Wild Card.
Winners of six of the last eight, the Rangers have been playing great hockey. It just so happens that they’re playing it in the toughest division in the NHL right now.
The offense, on most nights, is one of the two best in the league.
The Rangers have scored 198 goals this season, 2nd in the NHL, and are averaging nearly 3.5 goals per game. The goal-scoring is led by right wing Michael Grabner.
He has 26 goals, along with 10 assists this season but has just a single assist in his last five games. He’s in a bit of a slump on the goals front and will look to snap out of it against a Leafs defense that can be suspect at times.
The Rangers will also need left wing Chris Kreider to snap out of his slump. He has 22 goals and 18 assists on the year, but just a single assist and no goals in his last five games.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs roster has looked good in spurts all season but it’s taken a bit of a hit with Mitch Marner set to miss his fourth straight game thanks to an upper-body injury. Marner has 15 goals and 33 assists on the season and is one of the best young players this team has.
Speaking of best young players, rookie Auston Matthews continues to show his quick understanding of the NHL level game. Matthews has 28 goals and 23 assists this year, including three goals and five assists over his last five games.
He has just become the second teenager in Toronto history to record a 50-point season.
And the young talent doesn’t stop there. Center William Nylander continues to make his case as a top-six player, tallying 17 goals and 25 assists this season. In his last five games, he has three goals and three assists.
Three of those games were multi-point performances.
NHL Betting Trends:
- New York is 3-9 ATS in the last 12 games
- The Total has gone OVER in four of Toronto’s last five games
Free New York Rangers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs NHL Hockey Prediction:
New York has the offensive ability to outscore almost any team and its defense is no slouch either. Despite a tough loss to Montreal the other night, this Rangers team can outplay anyone. I like New York to get the W here.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: New York ML
New York is actually the underdog here, which makes the money line that much more enticing. I like the Rangers to get a bunch of goals in this one. It’ll be close but New York will pull it out.
