Coming off a 4-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, the New Jersey Devils head to New York to take on the Islanders in hopes of snapping a four-game losing streak.
New York, on the second night of a back-to-back after facing Philadelphia, will look for a win after losing four of the last six games.
New Jersey Devils
Sitting last in the Metropolitan Division, this season has been an utter disappointment and the New Jersey Devils will look to just limp through these last few games. Playing the Islanders, don’t expect a win from New Jersey.
The Devils are 3rd worst in the league in goals, averaging just 2.29 goals per game. The offense has struggled all season and only has a couple of skaters that can consistently scored goals. Taylor Hall has been the team’s best forward and was a smart acquisition by New Jersey last summer.
Hall has 19 goals and 32 assists this season, including two goals and two assists in the last five games. Expect him to get on the scoreboard in this one, but don’t expect many others to.
Right wing Kyle Palmieri has been the Devils’ other best forward. He has 25 goals and 25 assists, including two assists over his last five games.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders are certainly a better team under new head coach Doug Weight, but has faltered over the last few games and may not make the playoffs as a result of it. The team is 18-11-4 under Weight, but has won just two of the last six games.
The offense has been solid all season, led by captain John Tavares. The Islanders average 2.92 goals per game and have a few skaters that consistently produce points.
Tavares has 28 goals and 37 assists, including two goals and three assists over his last five games.
Anders Lee has played some great hockey and is extremely dangerous around the net. He has 28 goals and 17 assists, including two goals and an assist over his last five games.
The defense has been another story, and has been one of the worst in the league. The Islanders rank 26th in the NHL in goals against, giving up 3.04 goals per game.
NHL Betting Trends:
- New Jersey is 2-6 SU in its last eight games
- New York is 4-1 ATS in the last five games
Free New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders NHL Hockey Prediction:
New Jersey has just a couple of skaters that can consistently put the puck in the net but the offense often stagnates for this team. Against an Islanders team that has John Tavares and Anders Lee, I can’t see the Devils keeping up with the Isles skaters. NYI gets the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: New York ATS
New Jersey’s offense is subpar at best and the defense is worse than that. The Islanders have been a better second half team and shouldn’t have trouble scoring goals against the Devils. New York should cover the spread in this one.
NHL Free Score Prediction: New Jersey 2 – New York 5
