(42-23-11) Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets (35-35-7)
With a ton of young offensive talent, the Jets will continue to try to build out towards next season.
They will likely need to address the goaltending position, which has been an area of concern for the team this year.
The Ducks have been able to have a strong core since Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry developed into superstars, after being selected in the first round in the powerful 2004 draft.
The play of Rickard Rakell has flown under the radar this season, but he has been excellent. Rakell, despite missing 10 games at the beginning of the year with contract issues, has netted 32 goals to lead the team in the category.
The roughly $3.8-million annual price tag for Rakell running until 2022 looks like an absolute steal for the Ducks.
The “Ryans” sit atop the score sheet, with Getzlaf leading the charge once again with 66 points in 68 games played. Ryan Kesler follows with 21 goals and 53 points, while both average over 21 minutes per game and own respective plus-9 ratings.
The defense is Anaheim’s greatest area of strength, with the likes of Cam Fowler, Hampus Lindholm, Sami Vatanen, Josh Manson and Shea Theadore.
The team will be at risk of losing a solid young defender come expansion draft, but their focus is on this season and a Cup Finals appearance.
In net, Jonathan Bernier has been excellent of late, filling in while starter John Gibson has been injured. Bernier has a .946 SV% in March with 10 wins in that span.
The Jets’ offense has been good this year, grading out 9th overall in goals per game at 2.9 on average. The defensive side of their game hasn’t been as smooth though, which is the driving factor behind them being eliminated from playoffs already.
On the season, Winnipeg has allowed the 4th highest goals against mark of any team at 3.2.
The goaltending and defense will need some retooling this offseason, considering the demoted Ondrej Pavelec was summoned from the AHL for parts of the year to start in effort for a solution.
Connor Hellebuyck was supposed to take another leap forward in his development, but has registered a .905 SV% and a 2.94 GAA on the year.
With a bevy of solid netminders hitting free agency this summer, Hellebuyck might be forced into a time-share or backup role.
The offense is led by Mark Scheifele, who has 77 points in 74 games played and has turned into a star player.
Patrik Laine has garnered much of the attention though, as the rookie has scored 34 goals and 61 points in 68 games played.

Free Anaheim Ducks vs. Winnipeg Jets NHL Hockey Prediction:
Anaheim needs to stay in the win column in effort to fend off both San Jose and Edmonton from the 1st place seed in the Pacific. The strong play of Jonathan Bernier has helped to do so, backing his team to points in 9 of their last 10 games.
