With the Predators and the Flames in 4th place in their respective divisions, both teams are in the playoff hunt but definitely need to start stringing together wins in order to gain some ground on the top three spots.
Nashville will look to do so in the Central when it heads to Calgary to take on the Pacific Division Flames.
Nashville Predators
Defense has been the name of the game for the Predators and has kept them in the hunt in the Central Division. The Predators rank 8th in the NHL in goals against, giving up 115 on the year.
The Predators simply don’t give up a lot of goals, evidenced by giving up just one goal against Vancouver on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Nashville doesn’t score a lot, evidenced by the fact that it lost that game against Vancouver 1-0.

The Preds rank 19th in the league in goals, and have tallied 119 on the season. Nashville averages about 2.7 goals per game.
The team’s best goal-scorer this year has been winger James Neal. On the year, he has 14 goals along with six assists. However, he hasn’t scored a single point in his last five games and it’s clearly affecting the Preds’ offense.
To beat Calgary, the offense will have to find a way to score and keep pressure on the Flames’ defense.
Calgary Flames
After a five-game stretch which saw the Flames score just seven total goals, the Flames found their offensive chops again against Florida on Tuesday night. The Flames scored five goals against the Panthers and will hope that their goal-scoring woes of recent times are over.
The team ranks 16th in the league in goals with 124 and has really struggled at times to score and gut out games.
Johnny Gaudreau has just an assist over the last five games, giving him 10 and 18 on the season. As good as he can be, he hasn’t been able to tally points recently and it definitely has affected Calgary.

Sean Monahan has been a much better player for Calgary recently that Gaudreau has. In his last five games, he has three goals and an assist, giving him 13 and 14 on the season.
Left winger Michael Frolik has had a decent year for Calgary. He’s got 11 goals and 16 assists on the year, including a goal and two assists over his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Calgary is 2-3 ATS in the last five games
- The UNDER is 4-1 in Nashville’s last five games
Free Nashville Predators vs. Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Prediction:
Both teams will be rested after a night off, but the Flames will have had a good night’s sleep in their own beds. After a momentum-building win against Florida, I like Calgary to take this W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Calgary -116
Calgary has been and is a better team than Nashville. At home in Scotiabank, the Flames should have the advantage. I like the Calgary money line here.
