Everything looked fine for the Minnesota Wild in their opening game as they were up 2-1 going into the 3rd. A disastrous 3rd period saw them concede 4 unanswered goals in what ended up being a pretty rough 5-2 loss.

The Avalanche started their season off on the right foot by beating a very good Calgary Flames team by 2 goals in their home opener.

They should have every chance to repeat that result here as the Flames are significantly better than the Wild and this Aves team gets back to back home games.

Minnesota Wild

The Wild might be a little down on themselves after that first game, but they can take some good from that first one.

They only took 2 penalties and successfully killed off both of them and were quite good blocking lanes with 18 blocks. Matt Dumba logged over 25 minutes in that loss and got on the scoresheet along with Jason Zucker.

One of the glaring weaknesses of that last game for the Wild was the 42% faceoff percentage which will need to improve if they want to beat the Avalanche on Saturday.

I would look for an improved 60 minutes from the Wild for this game against the Avalanche, but it might not be enough to beat one of the best teams in the league in their building.

Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche could not have started the season any better with that impressive win over Calgary and it looks as though Mikko Rantanen will continue right where he left off last year scoring 2 goals in that contest.

Another good thing that came out of that game for the Aves is that Grubauer was decent in a pressure spot. This is his first year as a starter and he was serviceable in that game with a .900 save percentage.

Look for the Avalanche to put plenty of goals up, but how will the blueline and Grubauer hold up to a decent Minnesota Wild attack?
