Coming off a Tuesday night loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Florida Panthers will look for a bounce back win against the Montreal Canadiens.
Montreal, coming off a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars, will look for its third win in a row when the Panthers come to town on Thursday night.
Every time it’s looked like the Florida Panthers have righted the ship, things go wrong and the team regresses. Coaching changes, roster injuries, goaltending inconsistencies, it’s all happened to this team that was hoping to repeat as Atlantic Division champs.
The Panthers have struggled immensely on offense, ranking 22nd in the NHL in goals this season.
Jon Marchessault leads the team with 29 goals and 20 assists in 69 games this season. Over his last five outings, he has six goals including a hat trick against Chicago.
Aleksander Barkov has been fantastic for Florida as well. In 61 games this season, he has 21 goals and 31 assists including two goals and four assists over his last five games.
The injuries continue to hurt this team, however, and there’s a slight chance that both top goaltenders in Roberto Luongo and James Reimer could be out for this game. Most likely, Luongo will play through a lower-body injury considering Reimer left Tuesday’s game with a head injury, but it’s not set in stone.
Sitting atop the Atlantic Division, the Montreal Canadiens will definitely play hard against a fellow division team in Florida, but there’s little chance that this team loses ground with just a few games left before the playoffs.
Defensively, the Canadiens rank 5th in the league in goals against, giving up just 2.47 goals per game. Much of that has to do with the team’s goaltender, Carey Price. Price is 35-18-5 on the year with a 2.23 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
Offensively, the team has been okay at times, but inconsistent, which could prove costly in the postseason. The team ranks 16th in the league in goals, averaging 2.74 per game. The team is led by the goal-scoring of Max Pacioretty. Pacioretty has 34 goals and 29 assists, including a goal and two assists over his last five games.
Left wing Paul Byron has also been a good goal-scorer for the Canadiens. He has 20 goals and 17 assists, but just a single goal over his last five games.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Florida is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 games
- Montreal is 11-4 SU in the last 15 games
Free Florida Panthers vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Panthers’ season is pretty much over at this point and, with the exception of a 7-0 blowout win over Chicago last week, the team has looked like a team that knows this. Montreal has a lot to play for and that should show. The Canadiens get the W at home.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Montreal ATS
Florida’s struggled all season and the Montreal Canadiens are playing great hockey right now. I like the Canadiens’ scorers to flourish against a very inconsistent Panthers defense and the Habs should cover the spread in this one.
