Coming off the Centential Classic loss, the Detroit Red Wings will look to bounce back and take care of the Anaheim Ducks in the Honda Center.
The Ducks won their New Year’s Day game against the Flyers in shootout fashion and will look to build on that momentum with a win over Detroit.

The Red Wings are coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss in the Centenial Classic, outdoors in Toronto.
Injuries continue to be a huge hinderance for Detroit. The Red Wings are still marred by injuries to key players like Justin Abdelkader, which has severly limited the team’s offensive production. Recent injuries to Mike Green, Johan Franzen, and Jimmy Howard have also hampered the Red Wings on both sides of the ice.
The Red Wings are currently 24th in the league in goals scored (93) and only have one player with a double-digit total in goals for the season. Dylan Larkin has 11 goals on the year and continues to be the Red Wings’ best offensive player.
The defense has faltered at times and has given up a lot of goals. Sitting in 18th in the league for the goals against category with 107, Detroit has struggled to keep up with other teams’ offensively. The Wings have a minus-14 goal differential on the year.

In order to beat the Ducks on Wednesday, the defense will have to contain the top six of Anaheim and find a way for someone besides Dylan Larkin to score.
Anaheim Ducks
First off, Anaheim may be without captain Ryan Getzlaf, who was taken out of the last game due to a lower body injury. It has not yet been determined if he will play.
If Getzlaf doesn’t go, Anaheim will be missing an integral playmaker. Getzlaf has just five goals on the year but the offense plays through him. He has 25 assists on the year, and leads the team in that category.
Anaheim has done enough offensively this year to win games and be 2nd in the Pacific Division. The Ducks have 107 goals on the year and average about 2.75 goals per game.
The defense has had its issues at times, though, and has given up four or more goals in nine games this year. This includes giving up eight goals in a game to the Calgary Flames.

For Anaheim to take care of Detroit, the Ducks will need to find a way to play the offense through their center regardless of if Getzlaf can go or not. They need a playmaker to get the puck to the net so that the wingers can put in past the goaltenders.
