After losing two straight to finish out 2016, the Winnipeg Jets are hoping to get the new year off to a good start in Florida, where they’ll meet the Panthers.
The Panthers broke a four-game losing streak on New Year’s Eve by beating Dallas and will hope to win two in a row by taking care of the Jets.

Losers of two straight, the Jets are trying to bounce back and rediscover what was working for them in the second half of December.
The Jets normally play great defense but have had a couple of poor games recently, giving up five goals to the Blue Jackets and six to the Islanders.
The Jets, while currently out of the playoff hunt, have shown some improvement.
The offense has been good all year, and is starting to improve even more.
Thanks to Patrik Laine, Mark Schiefele, and captain Blake Wheeler, the Jets have guys who can put the puck in the net and win games.
Captain Blake Wheeler has shown why he’s the leader of this team.
He has 11 goals and 18 assists have helped the Jets a lot, especially in leading the younger guys like Laine on the ice.
Patrik Laine is looking more and more like a favorite for the Calder Trophy as the season goes on.
His 19 goals and 12 assists. Schiefele has hit the next level of stardom at age 23, netting 15 goals and adding in 18 assists.

Florida Panthers
The minus-12 goal differential is the first thing you can use to explain the season-long woes of the Florida Panthers, and it’s been like this for a while.
The Panthers’ scorers continue to get injured and the defense has had a tough time keeping them in games.
According to head coach Tom Rowe, the team is still six weeks away from the return of Jonathan Huberdeau and will be trying anything and everything to stay in the playoff hunt for when he gets back to full strength.
Along with that, center Aleksander Barkov is on the injured reserve for two to three weeks with a lower body injury.
Jon Marchessault has played well in his last five games, scoring a goal along with three assists.
Vincent Trocheck has three goals and two assists in his last five games. Both guys have seen some improvement after having a five-game stretch where they only had one goal between them.

The defense for the Panthers is going to have to be great on Wednesday and contain the stars of Winnipeg.
If the Panthers can’t keep Laine and Schiefele in check, this game will be out of reach for Florida.
