Dallas, losers of the last two games, will head to St. Louis and try to grab a win against the fellow-Central Division Blues.

St. Louis has lost three of five, including a 4-2 loss to Carolina on Thursday, and will look to get one back against Dallas.

Dallas Stars

The new year did not start off good for Dallas, as captain Jamie Benn was placed on the injured reserve list with a foot injury.

There’s no timetable for his return. With this injury, Dallas loses a leader, a 34 point-scorer (10G, 24A), and a top line guy that is one of the brightspots in what has been a disappointing year for the Stars.

Without Benn, more of the burden falls on center Tyler Seguin and right winger Patrick Eaves. Seguin has played very well this year, tallying 14 goals and 25 assists on the year.

In his last five games, he has four goals and three assists, so he’ll look to continue that good run against the Blues.

Patrick Eaves has also had a solid year. He has 13 goals and nine assists, including one of each in his last five games.

For Dallas to beat a solid Blues team, the offense will have to be on point, but the defense will have to play above the level it has played all year.

The team ranks 25th in the league in goals against (117) and the D will have to be much better than that to beat St. Louis.

St. Louis Blues

St. Louis continues to be one of the three best teams in the Central Division. This has been the trend in recent seasons, with the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks alongside the Blues.

The Blues started 2017 with a Winter Classic win over the Blackhawks, but faltered against Carolina in a 4-2 loss on Thursday.

It hasn’t been the most consistent run for the Blues in the last month or so, but they’ll look to start stringing together some wins in order to gain ground in the tough Central Division.

To do so, the Blues will need a lot from right winger Vladimir Tarasenko. Tarasenko has had a fantastic year, posting 19 goals and 23 assists so far this year. He has three goals and an assist in his last five games.

On the defensive side, the Blues haven’t been much better than the Stars.

They rank 22nd in the NHL in goals against (115) and will look to have a better game than most against the Stars.

St. Louis continues to have a great home record. The Blues have been tough to beat in their own arena all year and I think this trend will continue, especially with Dallas losing Jamie Benn.
