The exceptional Columbus Blue Jackets head north to British Columbia to take on the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Sunday afternoon.
Off eight straight wins, Columbus is looking to keep the W train rolling, while the Canucks broke a three-game losing streak against the Lightning and are hoping to add a couple more wins in a row and get back on track.
Columbus Blue Jackets
There’s no other way to spin it. The Columbus Blue Jackets are a great hockey team. It’s been a surprising season for the Ohio hockey team and the team is thriving in the toughest division in the league, the Metropolitan Division.
This team is pretty unbelievable on the defensive end. With just 58 goals against on the season, the Blue Jackets are first in the NHL in that category. The team has 20 games this season where it has given up two or less goals, including three shutouts (one 10-0 over Montreal).
Speaking of 10-0, the offense has been great this year as well. Center Sam Gagner has had a wonderful go of it during the Blue Jackets’ winning streak. In his last five games, Gagner has five goals and four assists and is +9 on the ice.
Right winger Cam Atkinson has had an equally impressive run this year. He has 29 points on the year (11G, 18A) including three goals and five assists in his last five games.
The Blue Jackets on the road are 9-2-3 this season, including winning their last five in a row. Continued great play on both sides of the ice should result in an easy win over the Canucks.
The Canucks still can’t find their way this year. So far in December, Vancouver is 3-5-0 including a crazy 8-6 loss to Calgary Flames.
The Sedin brothers have had decent seasons and so has center Bo Horvat. However, the team as a whole hasn’t been able to find good fortune on offense or defense. Vancouver ranks just 22nd in goals for (77) and 26th in goals against (96).
It’s no wonder why the Canucks lost nine straight games earlier in the year.
Injuries haven’t helped the lack of offense and defense. Most recently, newly acquired Erik Gudbranson was placed on the injured reserve because of a wrist injury.
To get back on track, the Canucks will have to find a way to beat the Blue Jackets on offense first. Columbus has been so good putting the puck in the net against even the best defenses that it’ll be tough for the Canucks to keep up.
This won’t be an easy game for Vancouver.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 4-1 in Vancouver’s last five games
- Columbus is 9-0-1 in its last ten games
Free Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Hockey Prediction:
Offense will win this game for the Blue Jackets. Columbus is an infinitely better team than Vancouver and, with the Canucks’ defensive troubles, the Blue Jackets should take home a W.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 5
Columbus has been scoring well as of late. That 10-0 win against Montreal, for example.
With Vancouver struggling to defend and keep games close, Columbus could run away and score 5 by themselves. I like the OVER.
